Satellite images of Ukraine on February 3 (left photo) and October 17 (right photo) show that the use of precision-guided weapons could deprive the country's power system of not 30% of power plants, as claimed by the country's authorities, but a much larger number of facilities.

Night lighting remained only in large cities: #Kiev, Ivano-Frankovsk, #Khmelnitsky, where the nuclear power plant is located, as well as in #Lvov. The rest of the large settlements, including industrial centers - #Zhytomyr, #Vinnitsa, #Kropyvnytsky, Krivoy Rog and #Nikolaev - are practically not illuminated at night.

This suggests that generation facilities in Ukraine are not damaged, but power lines are guaranteed to be out of action.

⚡️🇧🇾🇷🇺🇺🇦 Situation in the Belarusian Direction by the End of 20 Oct 2022⚡️

⚠️ Amid rumours of an imminent offensive by the Russian Forces either on #Lvov with #Volyn, #Kiev, #Chernigov or #Kharkov, the @Rybar's team decided to turn its attention to the northern regions of #Ukraine and report regularly on the developments there.

Currently, the Ukrainian command continues to reinforce the troop grouping in the north of the country. Reinforcements are being moved to the regions bordering #Belarus, and fortifications are being built in the #Kharkov Region.

#Kharkov Sector:

▪️ A grouping has been formed to prevent Russian troops from resuming their offensive on the regional centre.

▪️ Military personnel of the AFU engineering units are building fortifications at the #Okop - #Veterinarnoye line as well as in #Lukyantsy. Territorial Defence detachments are manning firing positions.

▪️ AFU reconnaissance groups are reconnoitring in the border areas. Observation posts have been established near #Volchansk, #Ternovaya and #Revolyutsionny.

▪️ Artillery crews are deployed near Malye Prokhody, #Borshchevaya, #Liptsy, #Veseloye. And two 155mm Bogdan self-propelled artillery units have been moved to #Pobeda (#Peremoga).

#Chernigov Sector:

▪️ Ukrainian formations are preparing for a possible offensive by the Russian Forces. North of Novgorod-Seversky and in #Shostka, the 209th Anti Tank Division of the 403rd AFU Artillery Brigade has set up an ambush in hidden firing positions.

▪️ Sabotage groups with SPG-9 anti-tank grenade launchers have taken up positions near Seredina-Buda and Gremyach settlements. And 155-mm artillery pieces have been deployed south of Seredina-Buda.

▪️ Several detachments of English-speaking mercenaries - mostly US citizens - have been moved to the area of the #Desna combined arms training ground.

#Kiev Sector:

Ukrainian formations with the forces of the 6th Border Unit and Special Forces reconnaissance groups conduct patrols in the vicinity of the Rudnya-Ilinetskaya and Rudki settlements.

▪️ Engineer teams of the 115th Territorial Defence Brigade are setting up mine barriers on the likely offensive routes of the combined group of troops from #Belarus.

▪️ The Ukrainian command notes that Russian soldiers are using UAVs of various types on a large scale. The Ukrainian Air Force command post has been moved to #Bushevo due to the risk of strikes on rear facilities.

▪️ Several electronic warfare assets, including Khmara and Anklav, were deployed in #Brovary to counter drones and suppress communication channels.

#Northwest Section:

Ukrainian formations continue to prepare reserves to replenish the troops groupings in various directions.

▪️ A new unit, the 77th Separate Airmobile Brigade of Airborne Assault Troops, is being formed at the 37th Combined Arms Range of the AFU in #Perlyavka, southwest of #Zhytomyr. The 67th Mechanized Reserve Brigade will be established at the 184th training centre in #Starichi.

▪️ A command and observation post of the 2nd Special Forces Unit of the 71st AFU Jager Brigade is established near the settlement of #Vezhitsa in the #Rivne region. Six reconnaissance units of the 71st Jager Brigade patrol the border areas with #Belarus on a daily basis.

#RussianFederation Territories:

▪️ On the morning of 22 October, the AFU struck civilian infrastructure in the town of #Shebekino in #Belgorod region. Shells hit shopping centres. Two civilians were killed and 13 others wounded.

#Starobelsk Direction (MAP):

▪️ In the #Svatovo area, Ukrainian formations conducted a reconnaissance battle on the #Raygorodka - #Kovalevka line. Russian Forces repulsed the attack. The enemy suffered losses and withdrew its tanks to the #Borovaya area due to a lack of fuel and lubricants.

▪️ In the #Lyman sector, the AFU continues preparations for a large-scale offensive on #Kremennaya from the #Torskoye - #Terny line.

▪️ During the attack on 22 October, the enemy managed to approach #Krasnopopopovka, but the Russian soldiers of the 20th Army beat back the attack and regained almost all the lost positions. The Ukrainian command plans to resume the assault in order to create a bridgehead for an attack on #Kremennaya.

#Soledar Direction (MAP):

▪️ During the advance from #Otradovka, Russian Forces pushed back units of the AFU´s 58th Motorized Infantry Brigade into the reserve lines.

▪️ Units of the 2nd Battalion of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade were moved from Chasov Yar near #Opytnoye to stop the advancing Wagner PMC assault troops.

▪️ Soldiers of the 46th Separate Assault Battalion of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade, supported by artillery, attempted to flank the Russian Forces from the direction of #Kleshcheevka. The attack was repulsed.

▪️ In the #Seversk sector, units of the AFU´s 10th Mountain Assault Brigade conducted a reconnaissance battle near #Serebryanka, but withdrew under fire from Russian Forces.

#Lugansk Region:

▪️ Ukrainian militants shelled #Starobelsk, as well as #Rubezhnoye, #Svatovo and #Novoaidar with HIMARS MLRS.

#Donetsk Direction:

▪️ There have been no significant changes in the front lines over the past 24 hours. After capturing all the AFU strongholds on the outskirts of #Opytnoye, Sparta Battalion fighters are preparing to storm the village.

▪️ Ukrainian militants shelled #Donetsk, #Kashtanovoye, #Маkeevka, #Yasinovataya, #Gorlovka, Krasny Partizan and other settlements in the agglomeration.

#Zaporozhye Direction (MAP):

▪️ The AFU continues to prepare for a major offensive. Several units of the AFU´s 65th Mechanized Brigade have been deployed to the #Gulyaypole section.

▪️ Mobilised men trained at training groundsin Western #Ukraine have been moved to the #Orekhov sector. They have formed assault units with BGM-71 TOW ATGMs.

▪️ At the same time, the AFU is increasing its grouping in the #Vremevka outpost. Two units of the 77th Airmobile Brigade formed in #Zhytomyr region have arrived in Bolshaya Novoselka. A tank platoon, a mechanised company and 20 pickup trucks with personnel have been transferred to #Uspenovka.

On the morning of 23 October, AFU militants carried out a missile attack on a hotel on the eastern outskirts of #Energodar, where Rosenergoatom staff is living. The building was damaged but there were no casualties.

#Nikolaev - #Berislav Direction on Southern Front (MAP):

▪️ There is no significant change in the situation in the #Kherson region. After several failed attempts, the AFU is replenishing losses and conducts reconnaissance of Russian positions before the next assault.

▪️ In the #Berislav area, Russian soldiers blockaded and captured a sabotage group of the AFU´s 17th Tank Brigade in its full strength on the #Pyatikhatka - #Polyanka line.

▪️ In the #Andreevka sector, a SRG of the 46th Separate Airmobile Brigade tried to entrench itself in the area north of #Ishchenka. Russian troops detected the movement of the Ukrainian group and carried out artillery strikes on the advance areas, forcing the enemy to retreat.

▪️ In #Poltava, the 179th AFU training centre is recruiting volunteers for a two-month training course in the Marine Corps.

#Chernigov Region:

▪️ The 55th Artillery Brigade of the AFU is being trained at the 242nd Training Ground under the guidance of foreign mercenaries.

⚡️🇷🇺🇺🇦💡 Massive Missile Strikes by the Russian Armed Forces in #Ukraine: What is known as of 18:00⚡️

🩸 In the afternoon, the Russian Armed Forces once again launched a series of strikes on targets across #Ukraine. The launches were carried out by long-range aircraft of the Russian Air Force and naval ships. As on previous occasions, the attacks caused electricity and water supply problems in Ukrainian cities.

Despite recent deliveries of Western-made air defence systems, the AFU was once again unable to repel a Russian massive air raid. So far, the following cities are reliably known to have been hit:

▪️ #Kiev: more than five cruise missile sorties. One five-storey building was damaged, which may be a consequence of Ukrainian air defence. Power outages have started in the city.

▪️ #Zhytomyr: two incursions into critical infrastructure, tentatively the Zhytomyrska 330 substation, which has previously been hit by missiles by the Russian Armed Forces. Electricity and water have been lost in the city.

▪️ #Kharkov: power cuts after incoming attacks, underground shut down. Local authorities reported hitting critical infrastructure in Chuguevsky district: probably the Zmievskaya TPP.

▪️ #Lvov: a series of explosions, power and mobile phone outages. According to preliminary reports, one of the targets was a 330kV substation.

▪️ #Sumy: explosions in the area and power outages.

▪️ #Odessa: at least one rocket flew in. Power outage in part of the area.

▪️ #Kirovograd: two sorties, power infrastructure damaged.

▪️ #Volyn: hit energy infrastructure in the region, tentatively a 330kV substation in Kovel.

▪️ #Rivne: explosion, city partially de-energised.

▪️ #KrivoyRog: at least two explosions after arrivals.

▪️ #Khmelnitsky: at least two explosions after incoming flights.

▪️ #Kremenchuk: incoming, infrastructure facility hit.

Although power cuts have begun in the country, it is not gone everywhere: this indirectly indicates that autotransformers, rather than general control points (GCPs), are once again targeted. This reduces the effectiveness of the impact on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

🩸 In the evening, the Russian Armed Forces again carried out massive strikes on critical infrastructure in #Ukraine. Targets were hit in #Zhytomyr, #Kiev, #Kharkov, #Zmiev, #Lvov, #Rivne and #Artsyz, as well as in #Sumy, #Khmelnitsky, Ivano-Frankovsk and #Vinnitsa regions.

Ukrainian air defence could not repel the attacks. There have been power outages across the country.

▪️ During the raid, two munitions landed near the Polish village of Przewodowy, killing two farmers. According to preliminary reports, a stray AFU S-300 anti-aircraft missile collapsed on Polish territory.

#Belgorod Region:

▪️ Ukrainian militants shelled residential buildings in the village of #Leninsky, as well as in the villages of #Bezymeno, #Kozinka and #Spodaryusheno. Civilians were not injured.

▪️ In the evening, enemy militants attacked residential areas in the town of #Shebekino. At least three people were killed and three others wounded.

▪️ Russian air defence forces intercepted almost all targets over #Valuyki and in the #Graivoron urban district, but one person was killed by a missile. Another woman was injured.

#Starobelsk Direction (MAP):

▪️ In the #Kupyansk sector, artillery units of the 14th AFU Brigade shelled the #Olshana - #Pervomayskoye - #Orlyanka - #Yagodnoye line. Enemy targeting was carried out by drones and SRGs near #Ivanovka.

▪️ In the #Svatovo sector, assault commandos of the 2nd Battalion of the AFU's 92nd Mechanized Brigade entrenched on the western outskirts of #Stelmakhovka and continued their offensive towards #Kuzemovka. The advancing enemy forces were detected by UAVs and withdrew to their initial positions under artillery fire from the Russian forces.

▪️ In the #Lyman sector, a company of the AFU's 25th Airmobile Brigade, supported by armoured vehicles, attempted to break through towards #Chervonopopovka. Russian forces repulsed the attack and later hit the brigade's positions, killing two and wounding 15 Ukrainian paratroopers.

▪️ In the #Lysychansk sector, fighting continues near #Belogorovka. An enemy SRG conducted combat reconnaissance on Russian positions near #Zolotarevka. The Russian forces detected the enemy's concentration and launched a preemptive strike, forcing the Ukrainian militants to retreat to their initial positions with losses.

#Lugansk People's Republic:

▪️ Ukrainian militants shelled residential buildings in #Denezhnikovo and #Volcheyarovka with barrel and missile artillery. Civilians were not harmed.

#Donetsk Direction (MAP):

▪️ The AFU command is moving reinforcements and equipping additional fortifications to hold the stronghold of #Avdeevka.

▪️ Clashes continue in #Vodyanoye and #Nevelskoye. An enemy sabotage group has unsuccessfully tried to break through the advancing Russian ranks in #Pervomayskoye.

▪️ Russian forces under constant fire from Ukrainian artillery and MLRS continue to clear the northern outskirts of #Opytnoye.

▪️ Ukrainian militants have struck residential areas and civilian infrastructure in #Donetsk, #Gorlovka, #Yasynuvata, #Yakovlevka and other settlements in the agglomeration.

#Zaporozhye Direction (MAP):

▪️ The enemy is conducting reconnaissance along the line of contact as well as in the rear of Russian forces with the help of drones and pro-Ukrainian civilian informers.

▪️ In preparation for the offensive, the Ukrainian command is transferring reinforcements from the direction of #Kherson to the #Orekhov sector.

▪️ In #Melitopol, Ukrainian terrorists carried out an assassination attempt on a former city councillor by detonating a bomb outside his entrance. The injured official has been taken to hospital in serious condition.

#Kherson Direction on Southern Front (MAP):

▪️ AFU units continue to entrench themselves on the right bank of the #Dnipro River. At the same time, filtration activities are taking place in and around #Kherson, involving mercenaries from the UK and Georgia.

🔎 Rybar's team continues its analysis of the consequences of a systemic fire attack on Ukraine's energy system.

#Kiev said today's raid was the largest such attack since the start of the SMO. According to Ukrainian resources, cruise missiles and kamikaze drones damaged 15 critical infrastructure facilities.

We have repeatedly written that strikes have a cumulative effect, with each successive raid resulting in increasingly grave consequences for the Ukrainian energy system. This is exactly what today's events have demonstrated:

▪️ Strikes on the #Zmiev thermal power plant in #Chuguev district temporarily completely de-energised the entire #Kharkov region.

▪️ Strikes on facilities in #Kiev led to massive overloads in the power grid and tripping of emergency frequency overload automatics, which was perfectly visible in the footage of pulsating power on and off.

▪️ Repeated strikes on the #Zhytomyr 330 substation resulted in power outages in this regional centre and areas around it.

▪️ Voltage surges and temporary power outages were reported in western regions of Ukraine after repeated strikes on the Lvov-South 330 substation in Lvov Region and the #Kovel 330 substation in #Volyn Region.

🔻 For the first time, #Moldova also experienced the consequences of Russian missile strikes: paradoxically, they were the consequence of the policies of the authorities themselves in #Chisinau.

➖ Restrictions of gas supply to #Transnistria led to decrease of generation of the Moldavian state district power station that with its capacity stabilized the situation in the south of #Odessa region and fed the energy deficit of #Moldova.

➖ Due to reduced capacity and increased consumption from Ukraine, exacerbated by a possible impact on the 330 substation in #Artsyz, an automatic protection was triggered at the TPP. The plant switched to self-powered operation, which caused consumers in Moldova and Transnistria to be disconnected.

➖ Also, a section of the 750kV high voltage transit line in #Romania was disconnected, which may indirectly indicate a possible short circuit from the 750kV switchgear of the South Ukraine NPP.

🔻 The lack of objective data from most of the hit locations made it impossible to determine exactly which elements of the energy facilities were targeted in each attack.

However, dense black plumes could be seen in photos and videos from the arrival areas. This indirectly indicates that it is highly likely that the strikes were again directed at power and automatic transformers rather than general control stations (GCPs).

🩸 Their preservation would once again allow Ukrainian power producers to reassemble emergency circuits and eliminate damaged equipment in a relatively short period of time. Yes, it will cause even more severe restrictions, but power supply to consumers will be restored.

The absence of strikes on the General Control Stations reduces the impact on the Ukrainian energy system, although even then its resilience drops with each attack.

🩸 In the vicinity of #Bakhmut and #Soledar, intense fighting for control of populated areas continues. The AFU is suffering huge losses in personnel.

#Bakhmut Area:

▪️ Wagner PMC assault units blocked a the units of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade, some of the Ukrainian militants refused to carry out combat tasks.

▪️ Due to the grave situation on the line, the Ukrainian command moved 185 mobilised personnel to replenish the 53rd Brigade, including a platoon of "refuseniks" from #Zhytomyr. A train with military equipment of the 24th Mechanized Brigade arrived in #Pokrovsk coming from the direction of #Kherson.

▪️ After their regrouping, the assault troops of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade attempted to occupy previously lost positions, but Russian fighters, supported by artillery, repulsed the attacks.

#Soledar Sector:

▪️ During intense fighting near the #Bakhmut - #Soledar highway, Russian units managed to squeeze out the Ukrainian formations. But then the 53rd Brigade managed to push back the Russian troops by counterattacking.

▪️ In the past two days, the #Bakhmut garrison has 18 fallen, 10 of whom were killed by friendly artillery fire.

▪️ Another 99 AFU militants were wounded, 14 of whom had to be evacuated from the combat area due to frostbite as they were not wearing winter uniforms.

▪️ According to enemy intercepts, hospitals and clinics are overcrowded and morgues have no space to store the bodies of the dead.

⚡️🇷🇺🇺🇦💡 @Rybar: Results of the #Zhytomyr 330 Power Substation Firing⚡️

Last week, photos of the aftermath of one of the Russian Armed Forces' strikes on an unnamed Ukrainian energy infrastructure site surfaced online. With the help of subscribers, our team was able to determine that they depict the destruction of the #Zhytomyr 330 substation.

The operator's lens captured a destroyed 330/110 kV three-phase autotransformer. Located next to it, high-voltage circuit breakers were also hit, as well as insulators and other auxiliary equipment were taken out of action by the blast wave.

During the October 18 missile attack, we analysed photos from around #Zhytomyr and suggested that the munitions hit the autotransformer specifically. The images published from the site of the arrival proved that our guesses were correct.

Already after the pictures were published, #Zhytomyr PS was hit again on 15 November, see here the 👉 Report on the Energy Strikes. It is possible that the missiles hit the remaining surviving autotransformers.
