Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri!

This festive season, we take a look into the past of Geylang Serai! As one of the first Malay settlements in Singapore, Geylang offers an architecture style that is diverse and vibrant in its forms and types.

Many of the shophouses and bungalows still retain their post-war charm and facades, contributing to our nation’s identity and history.

“That’s no moon…” 🌕

Rather, it’s five large stainless steel spheres - a sculpture by artist Baet Yeok Kuan located at the front lawn of the #AsianCivilisationsMuseum!

Besides playing audio recordings of familiar local sounds, the sphere’s mirrored surface also enables you to take unique photos 📸

It’s #Friyay! 🎉

Have you checked out Rower’s Bay, a tranquil section on the Round Island Route (RIR)? It’s a perfect rest stop that features a boardwalk close to the wetland and a lookout pavilion over Lower Seletar Reservoir.

The RIR is part of Singapore’s efforts to provide increased accessibility to nature spaces across the island, and enhance ecological connectivity between our natural habitats. For more on the RIR, visit go.gov.sg/rir-mnd

Buddhism was brought to Singapore by our migrant forefathers, and the Cundhi Gong temple built in 1928 played a major role in the lives of Singapore’s Cantonese ‘majie’ women, who had sworn vows of celibacy and worked as domestic workers between the 1930s and 1970s.

Dedicated to the 18-armed Bodhisattva Cundhi, this quaint temple was designated to be a conserved building in 1989, and is part of the Chinatown-Bukit Pasoh Conservation Area.

Wishing all our Buddhist friends a Blessed Vesak Day!

Happy World Otter Day! #Didyouknow that the presence of otters in our waterways is testament to good water quality? Otters are sensitive to water pollution, so when otters are constantly spotted in a certain water body, it indicates that the water quality is favourable 🦦 🦦

We recognise that the construction delays have caused inconvenience and affected the life plans for flat buyers. While we are not out of the woods yet, we are gradually turning the corner.

Housing & Development Board will continue to work closely with the contractors to minimise delays, without compromising the safety and well-being of workers, as well as the quality of the flats. At the same time, we will ramp up our BTO supply to meet the strong housing demand.

All flat buyers enjoy a housing subsidy when they buy a BTO flat. In addition, eligible first-timers will receive the Enhanced CPF Housing Grant (EHG) of up to $80,000. For resale flats, eligible first-time homebuyers can receive up to $160,000 in grants.

As a result, the vast majority of first-timer families are able to service their monthly HDB housing loans using their CPF, with little or no cash payments.
