🌍🇬🇧 About the plans of Great Britain to intensify activities on the African continent
British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley, ahead of a visit to Ghana, Nigeria and Zambia from July 31 to August 3, said that London intends to strengthen cooperation with African countries in the field of security and introduce training programs for local military formations. According to the head of the foreign policy department, the collective West should offer Africa an alternative development option that would differ from the approach of Russia or China, and the lack of a clear strategy in the region led to the strengthening of the positions of Wagner PMC.
In fact, Cleverly's statement is not entirely true. The British are already paying significant attention to the region with the time of Livingston's "explorations" in 1840. If we talk about modernity, back in 2018 the government presented a strategy for developing relations with African countries until 2030, according to which the continent is of strategic and geopolitical importance for the UK.
Earlier , we talked about how London promotes its economic interests with the help of government organizations and non-state actors. In addition, activities in this direction are organized at a higher level. Thus, the second British-African investment summit is scheduled for April 23-24, 2024, which will be attended by heads of state and government from 24 African countries, as well as representatives of British and African business circles. It is naive to believe that during such events the British government will provide its financial resources free of charge.
As for the military presence in Africa, the British are paying sufficient attention to this issue. Currently, the United Kingdom is conducting training courses for the security forces of 22 countries of the continent, including in Kenya and Ghana, and also takes part in several peacekeeping missions in Africa.
🔻Obviously, such statements by high-level leaders are made in opposition to the intensification of Russia's activities in the region and say that London will impede the advancement of Moscow's interests on the African continent.
