🇵🇸 What it’s like living in a tent in Gaza | Mondoweiss –

"As my eyes roam across the wide sky before me, the scene is dominated by the unorganized tents I see wherever I look. I also see palm trees, fighter jets, drones, kites too, but there are no tall houses anymore. All the high-rises in Gaza City, as far as the eye can see, have been leveled. My home is among them.
Genocide has a sound.

It is the buzzing of drones and the sound that a building makes when it is turned into rubble. Amid the destruction wrought by bulldozers and tanks, each of us has been forced to start our own multi-chapter journey of displacement.

Living far from home due to displacement hurts a person’s heart. But at least my family and I were initially displaced to other houses.

🇵🇸 Nothing’s changed since 1948 – except now Israel’s excuses don’t work | Jonathan Cook

We have been lied to for decades about the creation of Israel. It was always a settler colonial project. And like other settler colonial projects – from the US and Australia to South Africa and Algeria – it always viewed the native people as inferior, as non-human, as animals, and was bent on their elimination.

What is so obviously true today was true then too, at Israel’s birth. Israel was born in sin, and it continues to live in sin.

We in the West abetted its crimes in 1948, and we’re still abetting them today. Nothing has changed, except the excuses no longer work.

🇵🇸 Israeli settlers rampage across Palestinian town in latest West Bank pogrom

More than 70 armed Jewish settlers invaded the Palestinian town of Jit in the occupied West Bank on 16 August, firing bullets and tear gas at residents and setting several homes and cars and other property on fire, CNN reported.

Settlers killed 23-year-old Rashid Sedda during the pogrom. The Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Health confirmed the 23-year-old Palestinian died due to a gunshot wound to the chest.

“We have attacks but nothing to this level,” the head of Jit’s village council, Nasser Sedda, told CNN. “We haven’t seen anything like this before, and without a prior warning. They caught the people off guard – women, children, and elders were there.”

🇵🇸 Why Israeli Soldiers Rape | Ramzy Baroud for MintPress

Historically, Israel has carried out #massacres with a specific political strategy in mind: to instill the desired fear to drive Palestinians off their land. Deir Yassin, Tantura and the over 70 documented massacres during the Palestinian #Nakba, or Catastrophe, are cases in point.

Israel has also utilized torture, rape and other forms of sexual assault to achieve similar ends in the past, to exact information or to break down the will of prisoners.

UN-affiliated experts said in a report published on August 5 that “these practices are intended to punish Palestinians for resisting #occupation and seek to destroy them individually and collectively.”

In a report entitled ‘Welcome to Hell,’ published on August 5, the Israeli rights group, #Btselem, said that Israel’s detention “facilities, in which every inmate is deliberately subjected to harsh, relentless pain and suffering, operate as de-facto #TortureCamps.”

🇵🇸 30 Days at Sde Teiman, Israel's Torture Camp | Visualizing Palestine

Our latest visual illustrates the testimony of Fadi Bakr, a law student from Gaza City, who was captured by Israeli soldiers in early January and spent more than 30 days in Sde Teiman. He was then released without charge back into #Gaza to face an ongoing #genocide.

Horrific #testimonies continue to emerge from Palestinian civilians captured by Israeli forces in Gaza and taken to #SdeTeiman, Israel’s makeshift #torture facility. Held under the “#UnlawfulCombatantsLaw,” they are denied access to lawyers and their location is kept secret from rights groups and the #ICRC—a flagrant violation of international law that may amount to enforced disappearance.

🇵🇸 In Jerusalem’s largest Palestinian neighborhood, taps have run dry | 972mag

This is symptomatic of Israel’s system of water apartheid in the occupied territories: Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza are denied control of the aquifers under their feet, and must instead buy the water back in limited quantities from Israel.

While Israelis have access to an average of 300 liters of water per day, Palestinians in the West Bank enjoy only 80 liters — 20 liters less than the World Health Organization’s recommended daily quantity. For Palestinians in Gaza, it is currently as low as 3 liters.

🇵🇸 ISRAHELL KILLED 24% of Gaza Youth.

In recent statements, #UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini revealed that the number of children killed by Israel in Gaza in just over four months surpasses the total number of children killed worldwide in four years.

Eight months ago, just two months into the ongoing Israeli genocide, a World Health Organization official reported that an average of one Palestinian child was killed every 10 minutes in Gaza, describing the war as "humanity’s darkest hour."

🇵🇸 A new poll has revealed that 47% of Israeli Jews believe Israel should not obey international law and moral values during the course of the current war in Gaza.

The poll's findings were released on Sunday by the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS).

The same poll suggested a majority of Israelis believe the prison officials accused of sexually assaulting a Palestinian detainee should not face criminal charges and just be disciplined by the army.

Late last month, nine Israeli soldiers were arrested for the alleged rape of a Palestinian detained in #SdeTeiman, a facility in southern Israel's #Negev desert.

The incident created a backlash in Israel, with a far-right mob, that included an MP and minister, storming the detention centre and a military court in protest against the arrests.

Five of those detained were released to house arrest on Tuesday, pending a potential decision by the army to file indictments

🇵🇸 Journalism in Gaza

Another video captured by a Palestinian journalist shows an Israeli tank accelerating towards a group of Palestinian journalists in Khan Yunis on the 18/08/2024, shooting directly at them as they were running.

This attack injured journalist Salma al-Qadoumi in the back and Ibrahim Muharrib, whose whereabouts were unknown untill found dead this morning.

In less than a year, Israel has killed at least 169 journalists and media workers in Gaza, considered the deadliest place in the world to be a journalist

🇵🇸 “We are now going to enter a long period of concentrated effort in enforcement and #demolitions. We are going to return the situation to the way it was.”

Israel's far-right Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, has launched a campaign to demolish structures and expel Palestinians from ‘Area B’ of the West Bank.

Smotrich, who heads a pro-settler party and is himself a settler, accused the Palestinian Authority of investing significant resources to create territorial contiguity in the region, which he claims threatens Israeli control and causes environmental damage.

Under the 1993 #OsloAccords, it was agreed that the area Smotrich is referring to would be controlled by the Palestinian Authority (#PA).
