In an exclusive MEE interview, Heba Bassem Khres recalls the moment and events that unfolded after her mother was killed, and her son missing. Heba is the daughter of a Palestinian woman, Hala Rashid Abd Al-Ati, who was killed by Israeli forces when they shot her as she was fleeing her neighborhood in Gaza. She was waving a white flag as she was shot and killed.

Heba talks about the tremendous loss she has gone through with losing her mother and being estranged from her son for two months now. She demanded that the world look at her mother’s story, and her own story as a mother of a child who was traumatized, and deem it illegal and inhumane. She ends her interview by saying, “Please, end the war. That’s it.”

Video journalist Bisan Owda brings us exclusive eyewitness testimonies from survivors she spoke to in December who described the Israeli army’s torture and killing of wounded patients and doctors at the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza.

One of northern Gaza’s largest hospitals, the facility was under siege for days in November and may never open again. While some patients in critical condition were allowed to evacuate the hospital, survivors recall torture even on the evacuation route. Israel has targeted more than 150 health care facilities in Gaza since Oct 7. The targeting of hospitals is a violation of international humanitarian law.
