๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ Bethlehemโ€™s bombed-out nativity sculpture sends a powerful message to the world

This year, Bethlehem is sombre and quiet. There is no #Christmas tree and there are no holiday lights or tourists to see them.Instead, the city of Jesusโ€™s birth โ€“ which is in the middle of a war zone โ€“ is marking Christmas with a powerful and poignant message: solidarity with Palestine.

The Holy Family Cave is a sculpture that depicts a harrowing tableau: a bombed-out version of the traditional nativity cave, which many #Christians traditionally believe is where Jesus was born in Bethlehem. It is the site of the Church of the Nativity in #Bethlehem.

Al Jazeeraโ€™s Nida Ibrahim reports from Bethlehem.

๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ Israel approves new West Bank settlement on UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Israeli government on 14 August officially approved municipal boundaries for a new settlement on a UNESCO World Heritage Site near #Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank.

#JewishSupremacist Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said his office had โ€œcompleted its work and published a plan for the new Nahal Heletz settlement in Gush Etzion,โ€ a bloc of settlements south of occupied Jerusalem.

โ€œNo anti-Israeli and anti-#Zionist decision will stop the development of settlements. We will continue to fight against the dangerous project of creating a Palestinian state by creating facts on the ground. This is my life's mission, and I will continue it as much as I can," the Israeli official, who lives in an illegal settlement, said via social media.
