📊 How to combine cluster analysis and volume levels
in the trading and analytical ATAS platform
📝 In this article, we will consider a combination of cluster analysis and volume levels in the trading and analytical ATAS platform.
🎯 The goal is to find specific patterns in the buyer and seller behaviour for identification of entries into the market with low risk.
We will use the following charts and indicators:
🔹 Cluster chart in the Bid/Ask Ladder format will show actions of buyers and sellers. Time-frame is 5 minutes.
🔹 The Cluster Statistic indicator will show a percentage domination of buyers or sellers in each bar.
🔹 The Dynamic Levels indicator on 10-second chart of the EUR/USD futures (6EZ8) will show movement of the maximum volume level during a day.
🔹 The Dom Levels indicator builds red and green lines in the chart. These are levels of big orders in the order book

What is Delta in trading and exchange volume analysis? It is a predominance of aggressive buyers or sellers in a candle or individual cluster.
👉 The Delta indicator bars could be both positive and negative. One of the most popular questions of the traders who start studying volume analysis: ‘Is it possible that the growing bullish candle has a negative Delta and vice versa - could a falling bearish candle have a positive Delta?’
☝️ You can find answers to this and many other questions in the ‘Delta and Cumulative Delta: What are they and how could they help an intraday trader?’ article.

Life hack for working with Time & Sales and Order Book
👉 Time & Sales should attract traders’ attention towards increased activity of sellers or buyers, that is the appearance of a big number of one direction orders in a row. Especially if these are big orders near significant support or resistance levels.
We marked the level, at which the number of traded positions sharply changes, with a black rectangle in the order book. A big limit buy order is posted at this level in the blue field.
☝️ Limit orders are not always posted for executing a trade. Sometimes they are posted for confusing traders or making them believe that market sells will not pass here. We can see big market buys, which successively increase the price from RUB 4,600.5 to RUB 4,606.0, in Time & Sales. The prices move up nearly without any delay, which is a sign of strength.

The Internet is overloaded with advertisements of trading teachers. Everyone praises himself as much as he can. However, quite often it is problematic to make sure that such ‘gurus’ really have achievements.
Under such circumstances, it is crucially important for beginners to use the verified sources of information from real traders.
One of such traders is Michael Burgstaller from Austria. He has been using ATAS for many years already and we have become friends. Michael agreed to make an interview for our blog, which we called ‘How to become a trader from scratch. Interview with a professional trader’.
👉 Michael tells the story:
✔️ how he came to financial markets;
✔️ what mistakes he made;
✔️ about pros and cons of various markets;
✔️ what the beginners, who want to become traders but still do not know how, should do.

WHAT INDICATORS WILL HELP TO IDENTIFY A FLAT?
👉 A flat is a period of certain calmness in the market. Technical analysis indicators and oscillators, for example, VWAP, MA, BB, Stochastic and RSI, will help to identify flat movement in the market.
VWAP and Moving Average look like smooth horizontal lines in the flat. Stochastic and RSI oscillator values are in the middle and far from extreme points.
The VWAP indicator shows absence of a focused movement best of all (the maroon line in the chart) when the indicator looks like a horizontal line and the price trades close to it.
☝️RSI (the red line in the lower section of the chart) shows small splashes of activity but the values are very far from extreme points.
SMA (the black line in the chart) is also close to a horizontal line and the prices cannot steadily consolidate above or below the indicator.

A simple way to identify the LEVEL BREAKOUT of the Maximum Levels indicator
Two candles are sufficient for identifying the volume level breakout:
The hourly time-frame was selected in the chart:
✔️ The first candle should be closed after the level.
✔️ The second candle should confirm that there was a breakout.
✔️ The price should move in the direction of the breakout.
✔️ The candle should also close below the volume level in down movement.
✔️ The form of the breaking and confirming candles should be the trend one in the breakout direction. Which means that candlestick bodies should be bigger than candlestick shadows.
If you see these signs, remember that the probability of movement in the breakout direction is very high in the nearest future.

THE SPEED OF TAPE INDICATOR WILL HELP YOU TO USE THE MARKET INERTIA FOR MAKING PROFIT
The Speed Of Tape indicator analyses the Smart Tape. The indicator marks a bar with a colour in places where the Smart Tape accelerates. Analysis could be conducted by:
✔️ ticks,
✔️ volume,
✔️ sell trades,
✔️ buy trades,
✔️ delta.
This bar may become the beginning of a short-term movement and the impulse may be prolonged since the market has inertia.
👉 We will look for an impulse on the EUR/USD futures (6E). We will use a non-standard time-frame - M10. We look for the first candle, marked with the Speed Of Tape indicator, at the beginning of a European session.
If this candle moves in the trend direction, we may consider this point as the first impulse. There is a good probability that this impulse would last longer.

THREE WAYS TO IDENTIFY AN UPCOMING REVERSE WHILE EVALUATING MARKET WAVES
1️⃣ Estimate the size of a pullback using Fibonacci numbers: 38,2%, 50%, 61,8%
2️⃣ Count the number of waves. They should be approximately:
👉 3-4 when trading in a range;
👉 more than 4 when trend trading.
3️⃣ Assess the overall context. Use the volume profile and other indicators to confirm the trend reversal.
What are the Fibonacci numbers, and do they really have a “magic” power over the market? Read the article at the link https://bit.ly/3IOKt2s

This is another article on the topic of VSA and cluster analysis. Shakeout and Uptrust are grouped together in today’s article. Some might argue that the “mirror image” of Uptrust is Spring. That is a reasonable point. However, there is no Spring pattern in the classic VSA terminology. Although Volume Spread Analysis creator Tom Williams knew the term Spring, he never used it himself.
For the sake of purity of approach, we chose Shakeout, which has similar features to Upthrust, only in “upside down” form:
✅ Both signals reflect market manipulations of major players;
✅ They are aimed at taking as many stop losses as possible from traders who opened positions at the right side of the market;
✅ They are aimed to carry traders who do not have positions in the wrong direction.

FEATURES OF VSA END OF RISING MARKET PATTERN
Imagine a situation. The news is good and the volume in the market is extremely high. Prices are rising and everything looks good. Or not? High volume tells us that there is a lot of activity in the market, but if demand is high, we expect the spread to be wide and the price to increase sharply. But that doesn't happen. In order to recognize the “catch” in time, it is important to know the main features of the End of Rising Market pattern:
🔹 the candle’s spread is narrow
🔹 the closing price of the candle is higher than the previous day (bar)
🔹 the volume is much higher than the average
🔹 amid the end of a period of market growth
🔹 the next bar (day) – the price usually goes down, confirming the weakness
🔹 the news context is good. Sometimes, the End of Rising Market pattern occurs when the price reaches a new record high or crosses a round psychological level.
To understand the logic of the End of Rising Market, read the article https://bit.ly/486iVAr

5 RULES OF SUCCESSFUL CHART ANALYSIS
1️⃣ Draw lines based on bar highs/lows. Avoid using closing prices as it neglects price movements, distorting the analysis.
2️⃣ Build support/resistance lines with at least 3 points. This ensures their significance and strength.
3️⃣ Avoid trading on small timeframes. Use H1 and higher for increased forecasting accuracy.
4️⃣ Stick to liquid trading tools. The effectiveness of chart analysis on illiquid markets tends towards zero.
5️⃣ Protect your profits. When the price moves in your favor, adjust your stop to the breakeven level and beyond.
Don't rely on 90% of your predictions being correct. Maintain a profit-risk ratio of 2:1. With just 50% accurate predictions, you can still profit.

TOP 7 SETUPS IN THE DOM WITH R:R>1:3
1️⃣A Pullback to the Range
Price breaks the range, returns to its upper boundary, and bounces upward.
2️⃣A Pullback to an Iceberg
The market rises with a breakout, slightly pulls back, and we see a huge volume at the end of the pullback at 1 or 2-3 consecutive price levels.
3️⃣A Pullback With the Loss of Selling Pressure
Sell orders decrease during the pullback and can't push the price down.
4️⃣A Pullback With Correlating Markets
When the fast market starts moving after the pullback, you join in the slow one.
5️⃣Range Trading
Avoid trading this setup in narrow ranges. Absorptions at extremes will help identify levels to enter trades. If the price can't surpass POC, it will move in the opposite direction.
6️⃣A Fake Breakout
A strong breakout of range boundaries. Following a series of stop-orders triggering, the market stops with significant volume.
7️⃣Clean Impulse
The market starts moving very fast without obvious reasons.

RELIABLE AND COMMON REVERSAL PATTERNS
A reversal is a change in the trend of a financial instrument.
If there is an upward trend in the market, the price will start to decline after a reversal. Conversely, a reversal of a bearish trend will lead to an increase in prices.
Generally, the global trend changes when the price reverses on daily, weekly, or monthly timeframes. Reversals on smaller timeframes are often referred to as pullbacks or corrections. Reversal patterns in trading begin with pullbacks, and it is impossible to determine with 100% certainty what will happen to prices next.
If a day is not trending, reversals can occur several times within it. For positional traders, intraday reversal patterns are not of great significance, they focus on the overall picture. Conversely, for scalpers, reversals on weekly charts are not as important, as they operate only within the day.
Download ATAS at the link in the profile. Use powerful tools to identify the patterns you need accurately. Combine candlestick patterns with cluster analysis to find confirmation of an upcoming reversal and enhance your trading strategy.

RELIABLE AND COMMON TREND CONTINUATION PATTERNS
Last Engulfing Bottom – this is a continuation pattern of a bearish trend with a reliability of 66%. The first candle is white in a downtrend, and the second is black, with its body engulfing the body of the previous candle.
Last Еngulfing Тop – this is a continuation pattern of a bullish trend with a reliability of 67%. The first candle is black in an uptrend, and the second is white, covering the body of the first candle. Shadows can be ignored.
Bearish Doji Star – this is a continuation pattern of a bullish trend. A doji is a candle that has the same opening and closing price. There are many variations of doji: with long one-sided or two-sided shadows and the body of the candle at the high or low. The appearance of a doji indicates indecision and a lack of direction in the market price. If a doji appears after a long white candle and above its body, Bulkowski believes that there is a 68% chance that the bullish trend will continue.
