In the Name of Allah, the Entirely Gracious, the Exclusively Merciful


📩 Question:

The questioner says: is it permissible for a Muslim to say: ‘I seek refuge with Allah from Allah’s anger’?

📝 The answer:

Yes, this is prescribed. You seek refuge with Allah from His Wrath, and from His Anger. Who is The One to protect you from Allah’s Anger, and Allah’s Wrath, except for Allah.

And from the supplications of the Prophet (ﷺ), as has come in Sahih Muslim, on the authority of ‘Aishah (رضي الله عنها), and as has come in Sunan Abi Dawud, on the authority of ‘Ali bin abi Talib (رضي الله عنه):
(اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِرِضَاكَ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ، وَبِمُعَافَاتِكَ مِنْ عُقُوبَتِكَ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْكَ، لَا أُحْصِي ثَنَاءً عَلَيْكَ، أَنْتَ كَمَا أَثْنَيْتَ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ)
“O Allah, I seek protection in Your Pleasure from Your Anger, and I seek protection in Your Forgiveness from Your Punishment. I seek protection in You from You. I cannot count Your Praises. You are as You have praised Yourself.

And in the hadith of ‘Aishah (رضي الله عنها) that he used to supplicate with this supplication whilst he was in prostration, and in the hadith of ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) that he used to prompt with this supplication to be said at the end of the witr.
