The Kerch Strait is a strait in Eastern Europe. It connects the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, separating the Kerch Peninsula of Crimea in the west from the Taman Peninsula of Russia's Krasnodar Krai in the east.

Hunga Tonga is a submarine volcano located in the South Pacific. It is part of the highly active Kermadec-Tonga subduction zone and its associated volcanic arc, which extends from New Zealand north-northeast to Fiji.
Hunga Tonga and Hunga Haʻapai are small islands situated on the rim of a submarine caldera known by the names of the two islands.

The volcano erupted on December 20, 2021, and sent particulates into the stratosphere, and the eruption reached a very large and powerful climax nearly four weeks later, on January 15, 2022.
Scientists think that the cataclysmic Hunga Tonga volcanic eruption may be to blame for the early opening of the ozone hole above Antarctica in 2023
