(BIMSTEC) was established on June 6, 1997, through the Bangkok Declaration.
Member states: 🇮🇳India, 🇧🇩Bangladesh, 🇧🇹Bhutan, 🇲🇲Myanmar, 🇳🇵Nepal, 🇱🇰Sri Lanka, and 🇹🇭Thailand.
BIMSTEC positions itself as a vital bridge between South Asia and Southeast Asia, with the Bay of Bengal serving as a crucial maritime and economic artery.
The organization covers around 1.5 billion people, representing over 22% of the global population.
Challenges
▪️ Many of BIMSTEC’s initiatives, including the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), have seen slow progress due to prolonged negotiations and differing priorities among member states.
▪️ Countries like Myanmar and Sri Lanka have faced political upheavals, affecting their ability to fully engage in regional cooperation.
📊 There is a significant economic disparity between member countries
▪️ BIMSTEC lacks the institutional strength of other regional organizations like ASEAN,
▪️ Trade within the BIMSTEC region remains low, accounting for only 7% of total trade among its members.

Update on UPPSC Prelims:
1. The Prelims paper is not happening on 26 or 27th October. That is 500% certain. Any newspaper or youtube channel telling you otherwise is just chasing attention.
2. As things stand today, the date in December doesn’t seem likely and the Commission is trying for first week of January.
However, since it coincides with the Kumbh in UP, it will be difficult to conduct the exam in Jan 25.
3. As of today, the most likely scenario is March or April 25 (most likely in the last week of March or first week of April).
It is a verified information received from credible insiders.
Any new developments will be posted on the following channel

Reasons for Recent Heavy Rainfall in the Sahara Desert
Extratropical Cyclone:
An extratropical cyclone formed over the Atlantic, bringing significant moisture to the Sahara, particularly affecting Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya
Unprecedented Rainfall Amounts:
In September 2024, some areas received over (3.9 inches) of rain in just 24hr.
Climate Change Impacts:
Meteorologists suggest that climate change increasing atmospheric moisture and evaporation rates, leading to more frequent and intense storms in the region
Historical Context:
Prior to this event, Morocco experienced six consecutive years of drought, emphasizing the rarity and significance of this rainfall event
Hydrological Effects:
The rainfall has revitalized long-dry lakes, such as 🏞 Lake Iriqui, which had been dry for over fifty years, indicating a significant hydrological shift in the region.
Potential Future Trends:
extratropical cyclones are rare but may become more common due to changing climatic conditions in the Sahara...
