Alder Hey Children’s Hospital is one of Europe’s busiest children hospital requested a feedback hub to collect data from staff and visitors to further improve the hospital’s facilities; in response to the brief, WMB Studio designed the Vox Pod that is adaptable and flexible.

The structure is inspired by a radiused and extruded equilateral triangle, divided into three equal modules. The pod’s segments enables ease of movement and reconstruction of individual segments; either as a connected pair or as a complete confined capsule.

In addition, the capsule also serves as a mini-meeting room and informal conversation space. Acoustic foam is used as a unique functional, eloquent skin on the exterior; while internally birch ply is seen combined with warm tones of fabrics to offer a comfortable and relaxing space. Further revisions of the design is planned for this year.

To reflect its literal title, Arachne is designed and installed by the spatially intertwined lattices that hung on the building in the curtain wall mechanism.

What is #Parametric_Design ?

According to Autodesk, parametric design centers on free-form architectural concepts: sweeping lines, curves, and irregular shapes rather than the straight lines, sharp corners, and acute angles of former architectural styles. The term ‘parametricism’ was actually coined by Patrik Schumacher; it originates from mathematics -yes, architects actually need maths!– and refers to the use of certain parameters or variables that can be edited to manipulate the result of an equation or system.
