Exotic Species:

What are they? They are animal or plant species which are moved from their original range to a new one most often by people.

Examples: Some of the most sought after exotic species in India are Ball python, Scarlet Macaw, sea turtles, sugar glider (Petaurus breviceps), marmoset and grey African parrots.

What does exotic species include? According to Indian Government advisory, the phrase exotic live species includes animals named under the Appendices I, II and III of the Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora” and “does not include species from the Schedules of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972.

What is Planet Nine in News?

● It is a hypothetical planet that is said to be 10 times the size of the Earth and orbits far beyond Neptune in a highly eccentric orbit around the Sun.

● It was first proposed in 2012 to explain perturbations in the orbits of dwarf planets beyond Neptune’s orbit which are called Kuiper Belt objects.

National Hydrology Project(NHP):

● It was started in the year 2016 as a Central Sector Scheme by the Ministry of Jal Shakti with the support of the World Bank.

● The project aims at improving the extent, reliability and accessibility of water resources information and to strengthen the capacity of targeted water resource management institutions in India.

Currency Manipulation

● The US Treasury department defines currency manipulation as when countries deliberately influence the exchange rate between their currency and the US dollar to gain unfair competitive advantage in international trade.

Criteria: To be labeled a manipulator by the U.S Treasury:

○ Countries must at least have a $20 billion-plus bilateral trade surplus with the U.S.

○ Foreign currency intervention exceeding 2% of gross domestic product.

○ A global current account surplus exceeding 2% of GDP.

Why in News? The United States has added India along with Taiwan and Thailand to the 'monitoring list' of currency manipulating countries that includes major trading partners like China and six others.

🔵Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure(CDRI)

Launched by: It was launched by India at the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Action Summit in New York,US in 2019.

Purpose: It is an international knowledge and capacity development platform where countries can collaborate to make their existing and new infrastructure strong enough to withstand natural disasters.

Members: As of December 2020, the CDRI comprises 19 member countries.

Secretariat: New Delhi,India.

Sessions of Parliament:

● The summoning of Parliament is specified in Article 85 of the Constitution.

● The power to convene a session of Parliament rests with the Government.The decision is taken by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs which is formalised by the President in whose name MPs are summoned to meet for a session.

● India does not have a fixed parliamentary calendar.By convention (i.e. not provided by the Constitution), Parliament meets for three sessions in a year.

Four Indigenous Sports included in Khelo India Games 2021

Gatka: It originates from the State of Punjab and this traditional fighting style of the Nihang Sikh Warriors is used both as self-defense as well as a sport.

Kalaripayattu also known simply as Kalari is an Indian martial art that originated in modern-day Kerala.

Mallakhamb: It is a traditional sport originating from Indian subcontinent, in which a gymnast performs aerial yoga or gymnastic postures and wrestling grips with a vertical stationary or hanging wooden pole, cane, or rope.Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have been the hotspots of this sport.

Thang Ta: It is an Indian martial art from Manipur.It has been practised by the Meiteis and is dedicated to fighting skill and worship.

Khelo India Scheme:

Nodal Ministry: Ministry of Sports and Youth affairs.

Objective: To revive the sports culture in India at the grass-root level by building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establish India as a great sporting nation.

● Under the scheme, Talented players identified in priority sports disciplines at various levels by the High-Powered Committee will be provided annual financial assistance of INR 5 lakh per annum for 8 years.

What is Djibouti Code of Conduct/ Jeddah Amendment(DCOC/JA)

● It was established in 2009.It is a grouping on maritime matters aimed at repression of piracy and armed robbery against ships in the Western Indian Ocean Region, the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea.

Members: It comprises 18 member states adjoining the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, the East Coast of Africa and Island countries in the Indian Ocean Region.

Why in News? India has joined the Djibouti Code of Conduct/ Jeddah Amendment (DCOC/JA) as Observer.
