- United Nations Peacekeeping is a joint effort between the Department of Peace Operations and the Department of Operational Support.

- Every peacekeeping mission is authorized by the Security Council.

- The financial resources of UN Peacekeeping operations are the collective responsibility of UN
Member States
. According to UN Charter every Member State is legally obligated to pay their respective share for peacekeeping.

Composition:

- UN peacekeepers (often referred to as Blue Berets or Blue Helmets because of their light blue
berets or helmets
) can include soldiers, police officers, and civilian personnel.

- Peacekeeping forces are contributed by member states on a voluntary basis. Civilian staff of peace operations are international civil servants, recruited and deployed by the UN Secretariat.

- On Panchayati Raj Diwas, The Prime Minister of India launched โ€˜Swamitva Yojanaโ€™ or Ownership Scheme to map residential land ownership in the rural sector using
modern technology like the use of drones
.

- The scheme aims to revolutionise property record maintenance in India.

- The residential land in villages will be measured using drones to create a non-disputable record.

- Property card for every property in the village will be prepared by states using accurate measurements delivered by drone-mapping. These cards will be given to property owners and will be recognised by the land revenue records department.

- Government announces minimum support prices (MSPs) for 22 mandated crops and fair and remunerative price (FRP) for sugarcane.

- In addition, the MSPs of toria and de-husked coconut are fixed on the basis of the MSPs of rapeseed/mustard and copra, respectively.

- The list of crops are as follows.

1) Cereals (7) - paddy, wheat, barley, jowar, bajra, maize and ragi

2) Pulses (5) - gram, arhar/tur, moong, urad and lentil

3) Oilseeds (8) - groundnut, rapeseed/mustard, toria, soya bean, sunflower seed, sesame, safflower seed and nigerseed

4) Raw cotton

5) Raw jute

6) Copra

7) De-husked coconut

8) Sugarcane (Fair and remunerative price)

9) Virginia flu cured (VFC) tobacco

- Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its nod to set up a Rs.15,000 crore Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund.

- The fund had been proposed as part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

- Eligible beneficiaries under the scheme include the following with a minimum 10% margin money contribution by them,

1) Farmer producer organisations,

2) MSMEs,

3) Section 8 companies,

4) Private companies and

5) Individual entrepreneurs.

- The Border Roads Organization (BRO) constructed the Daporijo bridge over Subansiri river in Arunachal Pradesh in a record span of just 27 days.

- Significance โž” The bridge is of utmost importance in strategic connectivity as it links roads leading up to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between India and China.

- Subansiri River (gold river), originates in the Tibet Plateau and enters India through Miri hills in Arunachal Pradesh.

- It is the largest tributary of Brahmaputra River.

- The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has launched a micro-credit facility for street vendors under the Swanidhi Scheme.

- It is a special micro-credit facility scheme to enable more than 50 lakh urban/peri-urban & rural street vendors to restart their livelihoods affected due to the lockdown.

- The loans are meant to help kick-start activity for vendors who have been left without any income since the lockdown was implemented on March 25.

- Duration of the scheme will be applicable till March 2022.

- Article 72 and Article 161 empowers the President and the Governors respectively, the power to grant pardons, reprieves, respites or remissions of punishment or to suspend, remit or commute the sentence of any person convicted of any offence.

- The pardoning power of the President extends to the:

1) Punishment or sentence for an offence against a Union Law,

2) Punishment or sentence is by a court-martial (military court), and

3) Punishment is a Death sentence.

- The pardoning power of the Governor extends to the sentence of any person convicted of any offence against any State law.

- The Governor cannot pardon against the death sentence and sentence of a Court Martial.
