⚡️🇽🇰🇷🇸 ⚔️ Escalation in Serbia, Kosovo and Metohija - Situation until 18:00 on 12 December 2022⚡️
The third day of protests by Kosovo Serbs is relatively calm despite threats by authorities to use force to break up barricades.
According to some Serbian sources, explosions were heard again during the night in Kosovska Mitrovica, but the media have not confirmed this. Educational institutions for children have been closed since today. Cafes and restaurants have also suspended their work.
▪️ The Jarinje and Brnjak crossing points on the line of contact are still closed. Traffic in both directions is stopped.
▪️ Serbs continued to reinforce the barricades erected in the previous days. Due to the bad weather conditions, residents of the settlements are taking turns on duty at them. An entire tent city has been formed in Rudar, and new barricades have also appeared in Lesko and Zupce near Zubin Potok.
▪️ According to local sources, some Serbian army units have moved south and are only 7km from the line of contact. The Serbian gendarmerie, a full force of more than 5,000 men, has also been drawn to the administrative border.
The Belgrade authorities are expected to send an official request to the NATO-led international KFOR force for the deployment of 1,000 soldiers in the province to protect the Serbian population on December 15.
▪️ A crisis headquarters has been formed in Kosovo and Metohija to inform the population and media about the current situation. The Kosovo Serb leader, previously resigned Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo Goran Rakic, made an address. He urged the Pristina authorities to stop harassing Serbs, and called on the Serbian population of the province not to succumb to provocations.
▪️ According to the Serbian Ministry of Defence, attacks on international peacekeeping missions by Albanian security forces dressed in civilian clothes are possible in the near future.
🩸 According to the Russian ambassador in Belgrade, the situation in Kosovo and Metohija is "at the last line", which could be followed by a hot phase of confrontation.
