Last year, the government set out its plans to launch the Malaysian Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Investor Map in 2023 which aims to provide both domestic and international investors a push towards sustainability, especially on environment.
In the dialogue that was themed “Sustainability Does Matter: Investing for a Better Future”, UN under-secretary-general Usha Rao-Monari said “Now is the time for private businesses and investors to place their bets on climate-sensitive investments."

According to Maybank Investment Berhad and KPMG, Malaysia is catching up to the West in ESG initiatives.
KPMG Malaysia's Head of Sustainability Advisory Services reported that asset managers in the Asia Pacific region are becoming aware of the benefits of ESG practices, such as valuation uplifts, increased management fees, and access to offshore capital.
What's more, 22% of investors in Malaysia currently have more than 15% of sustainable investment assets as part of their portfolio, with this number expected to rise to 38% in the coming years.
