The students 🎓, who were from multidisciplinary backgrounds, proposed integrating IoT wearable tech ⌚️ with physical infrastructures 🏙 for real-time wayfinding 🗺 and ride-hailing vehicle authentication 🚖, underpinned by an ultra-wideband network 🌐.

“Everyone was balancing their commitments, with one of our members even flying off to Canada 🍁 for NOC just before the final pitch. We had to shift our dynamics to suit the nature of online meetings 🖥,” team member Jai Lulla, a year 3 Computer Science student 💻, remarked on the challenges the team faced.

Despite such challenges, Team Beep Beep 🚗 persevered and triumphed over 7 other contestants in the final of two rounds 🏅.

On the 24th to 25th May🗓, #NUSComputing🎓 hosted Singapore Vision Day 2023🎉. This inaugural event brought together experts👨‍🔬👩‍🔬 in Computer Vision👁‍🗨 to foster an exchange of research ideas💡 and to build a community🤝.

The event also featured a series of talks🎙 from invited overseas speakers including Jiajun Wu from Stanford University🌲, Niloy Mitra from University College London (UCL)🎓, Vincent Sitzmann from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)🔬, Nvidia's Or Litany, and Simon Lucey from the University of Adelaide🐨. 🌍 With advanced AI tools🤖, scammers can now mimic voices and create realistic videos to trick unsuspecting victims. 🚨

When interviewed by the Straits Times, #NUSComputing's Associate Professor Terence Sim emphasized the dangers, stating, "When a victim sees a video of a friend or a loved one, he tends to believe that it is real and that they are in need of help. There is an increased level of believability and deception behind such scams." 😧

Additionally, #NUSComputing's Professor Hahn Jungpil in an interview with Lianhe Zaobao, added his insights by saying, "Consumers should generally be more skeptical and vigilant.”

“A certain level of skepticism will help consumers tune into subtle visual and auditory anomalies that may suggest that the content they are seeing is indeed a deepfake.”
