💻🧩 The Distinct Elements problem, a fundamental challenge faced by computer scientists for nearly four decades, now has a breakthrough solution thanks to #NUSComputing's Assistant Professor Kuldeep Meel and his collaborators, Sourav Chakraborty and Vinodchandran Variyam! 🌐🔍

Their innovative algorithm offers wide-ranging applications, from helping online businesses understand web traffic 📈 to assisting in contact tracing 📱. Dr. Meel's work is a game-changer in computer science, with the potential to tackle real-world problems. 🌟

📚 The team published their findings in September 2022 at the 30th Annual European Symposium on Algorithms (ESA) in Germany 🇩🇪.

On 12 April 2023, 🗓 #NUSComputing held the 22nd School of Computing Term Project Showcase (STePS) 🖥🎉.

Some 800 guests 👥 attended this developer centric event featuring about 60 innovative student projects 🚀 across 5 tracks ranging from Game Development 🎮 to Machine Learning 🤖. The projects received votes from #NUSComputing faculty 👩‍🏫, industry guests 🌐, and representatives from various government agencies 🏛 to pick the winning submissions 🏆.

Besides giving students the opportunity to showcase their talent and creativity 🌟, STePS also connected them with key industry figures 🔑 and potential investors 💼.

🎶🌟 #NUSComputing's Associate Professor Wang Ye and his brilliant team, including PhD student Ou Longshen, Danielle Ong, and Gu Xiangming, are making waves in the world of music technology! 🎵💻

By integrating audio, visual, and sensor data 🎧📹📊, they're changing the way we analyse the singing voice and transcribe lyrics.

They've since written a paper 📝 which has been accepted by the prestigious ACM International Conference on Multimedia 🌐, and the team also won the Top Paper Award 🏆 at the conference last October in Lisbon, Portugal 🇵🇹.
