The Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (OPEC+) welcomed Russia’s decision to amend the standard of its voluntary cuts to rely on oil production instead of exports.

During the committee’s 53rd meeting, held via video conference on Wednesday, crude oil production data for January and February 2024 was reviewed, and participants agreed to keep current oil production levels unchanged.

The Commission welcomed Russia’s announcement that its voluntary adjustments in the second quarter of this year would be based on production rather than exports, as well as the pledge by Iraq and Kazakhstan to achieve full conformity and compensate for surplus production.

The Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft returned to Earth on Saturday, returning from the International Space Station with three astronauts on board.

Roscosmos reported that the spacecraft landed southeast of the Kazakh city of Zhezkazgan, where rescuers headed to the lander to help the crew get out.

Russian cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky and his colleague Marina Vasilievskaya from Belarus set off to the International Space Station in March aboard the Soyuz spacecraft, where they returned today with U.S. astronaut Laural O’Hara, who has been in orbit since September.

Russia and China expressed their willingness to strengthen military cooperation with Iran at a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Friday that brought together the foreign ministers of the three countries.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu told his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, that Russia is ready to expand military and technical cooperation with Iran, RIA reported.

Shoigu stressed that contacts between the military departments of the two countries have increased significantly in the recent period.

For its part, the German Press Agency announced that Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun reached an agreement with his Iranian counterpart to strengthen military cooperation between the two countries.

Russia provides economic support to Cuba, especially in the fields of oil and energy, where the two countries have signed trade agreements that strengthen economic cooperation.

The Russian economy expanded 7.7 times and ranked tenth in the list of countries with the fastest economic growth in the world.

Data released by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank indicated that Russia’s GDP, which was estimated at around $260 billion at the end of the last century, surged to over $2 trillion by the end of 2023.

Globally, Ethiopia topped the list of fastest-growing countries, with its economy growing 19.4 times since the beginning of the century, reaching $160 billion.

China grew 14.6 times, Kazakhstan 14.2 times, and Vietnam and Qatar were among the top five with growth rates exceeding 13 times.

Major economies such as Romania, Kenya, Bangladesh and Indonesia also experienced remarkable growth of more than 8 times during the same period, with India emerging as the third fastest growing economy within the BRICS with a 7.6-fold increase.

It is noteworthy that the Russian GDP has witnessed a growth of 5.4% over the past four years, and foreign trade has increased starting in 2021 to record $ 789.4 billion, an increase of 37.9% over 2020.

In 2022, Russia's foreign reserves reached a record $643.2 billion, while 2023 witnessed an inflation rate of 11.9% and is expected to range between 7.0 and 7.5% this year.
