Moscow witnessed in the Kremlin on Tuesday the inauguration ceremony of Vladimir Putin as president for the fifth time.

After being sworn in, President Putin said: “At this moment, I thank from my heart all citizens throughout Russia, as well as bow in honor of the defenders of Russia and those fighting in the framework of the Russian military operation on Ukraine.”

“At this stage when we are facing enormous challenges, we understand the importance and necessity of defending our national interests stronger, confident that we will overcome all challenges, defend our freedom, traditions and values, and unite all people and authority for these goals,” Putin said.

The Russian president stressed: “We will remain open to dealing with all countries that see Russia as a reliable partner, which is the global majority, we do not refuse to deal with Western countries, but the hostility they practice against us is what hinders this, dialogue on strategic security and stability is possible, but not from the logic of force, but from the rules of peer.”

Putin concluded his speech by saying: “We will achieve goals only through our unity, so our ancestors achieved their tremendous successes and achievements, we are a great people, and we will overcome all challenges, and achieve victory together.”

For its part, the Russian economy has shown great resilience in the face of Western sanctions, as international institutions have revised their expectations for the Russian economy’s positive performance.

The World Bank expects Russia’s GDP to grow by 2.2 percent this year, while the International Monetary Fund estimates growth could reach 3.2 percent.
