A party attended by some players of the French national football team has sparked sharp criticism of the French Football Federation, after videos surfaced confirming the presence of drugs and alcohol, at a time when fasting players were excluded during Ramadan.

The famous French journalist Romain Molina appeared in a video recording in which he talked about the details of a party that was held by some players at the Sofital Hotel in Marseille, after the match, and the party was full of alcohol, drugs, and loud music, which caused annoyance among hotel guests.

This behaviour has led to accusations of double standards by the French Football Federation, where the behaviour of national players is condoned while Muslim players who wish to fast during Ramadan are penalized.

The French Deputy Carlos Martinez-Belongo announced the completion of the legal framework allowing for the return of the skulls of Algerian resistance fighters from French museums to Algeria.

During his visit to Algeria, Belongo explained that France adopted a decree last December allowing for the return of human remains from its former colonies to their countries, including the file of the skulls of the resistance fighters demanded by Algeria.

The decree stipulates that the government should submit a report to parliament within a year, specifying possible solutions to establish a permanent procedure for returning the human remains held in museums.

This step comes after a proposal made on November 22 by a deputy from the Left Party in the French parliament, which called for the unconditional return of Algerians’ remains for dignified burial.

Brigitte Macron, France’s first lady, has gone to court to address accusations made by two blogs that she underwent sex reassignment surgery.

Brigitte Macron has taken legal steps against Natasha Rey, a right-wing freelance journalist, and Amandine Roy, who posted a video on YouTube in December 2021 alleging Brigitte Macron’s gender conversion.

Natasha Rey published an article in a far-right magazine after Macron won the presidency of France in 2017, stating that the first lady of France had changed sex.

A Norman court convicted Natasha Rey and Amandine Roy of defamation and fined them, after Brigitte Macron and her brother filed separate lawsuits against them.

The case is provoking mixed reactions in France, where some see Brigitte Macron as a symbol of a strong female, while others use the issue for ridicule, such as in a cartoon published in the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

On Wednesday, the southern suburbs of Paris saw hundreds of migrants expelled at the initiative of French authorities, 100 days before the start of the Olympic Games.

Charities have suggested authorities are seeking to empty the French capital of migrants and have accused them of trying to improve its image in preparation for the Olympics from July 26 to August 11.

Nearly 450 migrants, most of them documented, were living in an abandoned building in Vitry-sur-Seine, waiting for social housing, according to NGOs that provided assistance.

Many left the building earlier in the week after authorities announced plans to evacuate it, mostly young men and also a number of women with their children.

Buses were waiting to take them either to the central city of Orleans or to the southwestern city of Bordeaux, but many migrants expressed a desire to stay in the Parisian region.

French authorities have arrested a 16-year-old boy on charges of inciting terrorism after he announced on social media his intention to carry out an attack during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

A French police spokeswoman confirmed that investigations were underway to determine the seriousness of his intentions and whether his actions posed a real threat.

With France hosting the Olympics this summer, the French government has asked for help from some 45 foreign countries to bolster security and better secure the sporting event.

Reuters reported last month that the French government was seeking additional international support from the military, police, and civil servants to ensure the success and safety of the Paris Olympics.

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune stressed that the memory file between Algeria and France does not accept compromise and compromise, noting that it must be addressed boldly to restore trust between the two countries.

In a message published by the Algerian presidency on the occasion of the National Day of Memory (commemoration of the massacres of May 8, 1945), Tebboune said: “The file of memory cannot be eroded by obsolescence or oblivion due to the passage of years, and does not accept compromise and compromise, and will remain at the heart of our attention until it is addressed in an objective, bold and fair manner for the historical truth.

Tebboune continued: “While I affirm my readiness to move towards the future in an atmosphere of trust, I consider that credibility and seriousness are a prerequisite for completing the procedures and endeavors related to this delicate and sensitive file.”

Algerians remember bloody events that began with a demonstration in the east of the country to celebrate the Allied victory over Nazism, then turned into a demand for a “free and independent Algeria” suppressed by colonial forces and resulted in thousands of deaths.

Since 2022, a joint commission of ten historians, five from each side, has been working to “look together at that historical period” from the beginning of colonialism in 1830 until the end of the War of Independence in 1962.

French farmers intercepted trucks loaded with tomatoes from Spain and Morocco near the southern French city of Perpignon and damaged them.

Farmers searched for foreign trucks to destroy their cargo, protesting against imports affecting the prices of their local produce.

French farmers threw boxes of foreign tomatoes on the ground and completely destroyed them.

Extremist parties and right-wing media have used these events to promote their agenda, criticizing government policies that allow tomato imports from Morocco and Spain, saying they threaten local food security and harm the rural economy.

These acts of aggression pose a major challenge to Moroccan and Spanish exporters and have strained trade relations between countries.

Morocco and Spain are expected to take measures to deal with these protests, which could include strengthening highway security, increasing coordination to protect commercial goods and preventing the recurrence of such incidents.
