A video documenting the incident, which spread on social media and Libyan media outlets, has sparked widespread controversy in the country.

Local media reported that Adel Galous and Adham Nassouf, a leader in the “Tripoli Revolutionaries Brigade,” were released after serving several years in Mitiga prison in the capital, Tripoli, on charges of smuggling and extortion.

To celebrate his release, Galous threw a large amount of money from the balcony of his home in the Ghot Al-Shaal area of Tripoli.

The circulated videos showed a large crowd of citizens gathered below the building, scrambling to catch the thrown banknotes, causing significant congestion in the street where he resides.
