The Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced, in a move that reflects a significant improvement in the security situation in Libya, the easing of travel restrictions to Libya that had been imposed since 2016.

This decision comes after a comprehensive assessment of the security situation in the country, which indicated a significant reduction in the level of risk.

The ministry said in its statement, issued on Wednesday, that the previous ban on Indian citizens traveling to Libya, which was imposed on May 23, 2016, has been amended to advise against travel to the country except in cases of extreme necessity.

The ministry added that it encourages Indian citizens to contact the Indian Embassy in Tripoli in emergency situations.
