Criticism of the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony has mounted, leading to the official video of the ceremony being removed from the Olympic Games “YouTube” channel, while clips from previous editions remain available to watch.

The ceremony, held on June 26, was marred by a series of gaffes and controversial moments, including the Olympic and Korean flags being raised upside down, and rainy weather conditions prompted many attendees to leave the event early.

The Paris video was removed without official explanation from the relevant authorities, despite the availability of recordings of previous opening ceremonies such as the London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics. Neither the International Olympic Committee nor the Games organizers responded to requests for comment from the media to explain the removal.

According to the decision published by the French National Office for Veterans and War Victims, and reported by the Turkish Anadolu Agency, the phrase “died for France” will be used to honor four soldiers from Senegal, one from Ivory Coast, and another from Burkina Faso.

This phrase is used to refer to soldiers who died in wars and military operations in which France participated.

The “Senegalese Riflemen” unit was composed of African soldiers who fought for France on several fronts during World War II.

Several triathlon participants suffered repeated vomiting episodes after swimming in the River Seine, which was described as polluted despite the intensive efforts and huge sums spent to clean it.

The competitions scheduled for Tuesday were postponed to the following day due to the increasing pollution caused by heavy rains, and although the races were approved to resume, with the British team succeeding in both the women’s and men’s races, the physical condition of the competitors was below the expected level.

Canadian Tyler Mislawchuk, who came in ninth, appeared to be in a state of extreme exhaustion at the finish line, and was captured on camera suffering from nausea and severe vomiting as he completed a race that included a 1.5-kilometer swim in polluted water, a 40-kilometer bike ride, and a 10-kilometer run.

Niger’s military junta leader, General Abdourahmane Tiani, has accused France of trying to destabilize his country, noting that French agents who were expelled have repositioned themselves in neighboring Nigeria and Benin.

During a two-hour television interview on the occasion of Niger’s 64th anniversary of independence, Tiani expressed his concern about the activities of these agents to undermine Niger’s stability.

Tiani had previously criticized military agreements with France and succeeded in pushing French forces to withdraw from Niger, considering that Niger was suffering from pressure due to French bases in Benin, which led to diplomatic tensions and the imposition of sanctions by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Tiani stressed that Niger would take appropriate measures to reopen the border once it was certain that any threat from Benin had been eliminated.
