Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu confirmed during a phone call on Wednesday with his French counterpart Sebastien Licornu Moscow’s readiness to negotiate on Ukraine.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that during the call, reference was made to readiness for dialogue on Ukraine, basing the starting points on the Istanbul Peace Initiative.

Shoigu stressed to his French counterpart that sending French troops to Ukraine would create problems for France itself, the ministry said.

“Regarding the statements of the Elysee Palace about sending a French contingent to Ukraine, Sergei Shoigu pointed out that if it is implemented in practice, it will create problems for France itself,” it said in its statement.

Turkish authorities at Istanbul airport arrested an expert from the American Museum of Natural History on charges of trying to transport a large group of spiders and scorpions out of the country.

The detainee was reportedly identified as Lorenzo Brindini, a museum spider expert based in New York, who was trying to smuggle about 1,500 specimens of these creatures.

The Turkish agency “Anadolu” indicated that the arrest of Brendini was made after the discovery of the aforementioned samples, which are considered protected species in Turkey.

Brendini has extensive experience in scientific research related to spiders and scorpions, with scientific trips covering more than 30 countries, according to the museum’s website.

On Tuesday, Turkish authorities arrested eight people in a security operation targeting the terrorist organization “ISIS” in six provinces, where the operation was concentrated in the state of Şanlıurfa.
