Cиний чулок
  [si-niy chu-lok]

SLT: A blue stocking

Meaning:
А mocking nickname for an educated woman, devoid of charm and completely absorbed in bookish interests.

Origin:
The expression was born in England in the 18th century in the salon of writer Mary Wortley Montagu. The soul of this salon was the scientist Benjamin Stellingfleet, who wore blue stockings with his black dress. The ladies nicknamed the absent-minded scientist “blue stocking”. Soon this nickname began to apply to all participants in this circle, where conversations were held on scientific and literary topics.

Не будь синим чулком! Сходи куда-нибудь вечером!
[ni but' si-nim chul-kom! skha-di ku-da-ni-but' ve-che-ram]
🇬🇧 Don't be a bluestocking! Go out tonight!

Мечеть Кул-Шариф
  [mi-chet' kul sha-rif]

🔻The Kul Sharif Mosque located in Kazan Kremlin was reputed to be one of the largest mosques in Russia and in Europe outside of Istanbul.

🔻Originally, the mosque was built in the Kazan Kremlin in the 16th century. It was named after Kul Sharif, who was a religious scholar who served there.

🔻The Mosque is open to visit by people of any religion. I was really impressed by its gorgeousness!

📍 Geoposition (tap➡️): Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia

Прошу прощения за мой французский
[рra-shu pra-shche-ni-ya za moy fran-tsuz-skiy]
🇬🇧 Pardon my French

🔻This is a well-known expression in modern Russian (as well as in English); that is usually used after the non-literary (or obscene) vocabulary as a form of apology.

🔻It is used without any intention to express hostility towards French speakers.
