🥞Today is День Оладушек - an informal Russian holiday! It's dedicated to one of the most beloved and traditional dishes of Russian cuisine:

Оладушки (deminutive, plural)
[a-la-dush-ki]
from
Оладьи (plural)
[a-la-d'yi]
Pancakes

🔻Оладушки are fluffy, thick pancakes that are often referred to as "Russian fritters." They are typically made with a yeast dough, similar to American pancakes, and often include ingredients like milk, eggs, flour, and sugar. Оладушки are usually served with sour cream, jam, or honey.

🔻Note the difference:
Блины
[bli-ny]
(Russian) blinis

🔻Блины are thin, crepe-like pancakes made from a buckwheat or wheat flour batter. Блины can be savory or sweet and are often rolled, filled, or topped with a variety of ingredients like smoked salmon, caviar, sour cream.

😋The key difference? Оладушки are thicker and fluffier, while блины are thinner and more delicate.

Have you ever tried Russian оладушки? Check the attached link!

🇷🇺 Я разленился, посоловел и опять впадаю в хандру. Не работаю. Сижу по целым дням на кресле и гляжу в потолок.
🇬🇧 I've become lazy, sluggish, and I'm slipping into melancholy again. I'm not working. I sit in a chair all day staring at the ceiling.

From Anton Pavlovich Chekhov's letters.

А как вы проводите воскресенье?

  [s dnyom na-rod-na-va yi-din-stva]
  Happy Unity Day!

🔻For the first time, the holiday of National Unity became a non-working day during the reign of Paul I. This event was celebrated until the October Revolution.

🔻Since 2005, National Unity Day has been celebrated throughout Russia in memory of the distant but defining feat of our ancestors from the 17th century, which shaped the course of Russian history for centuries.

The foundation of this mural in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk is an archival photo of the Chekhov family, taken shortly before his trip to Sakhalin.

🔻He's about to turn 30, his brother, a painter, has recently passed away, and the question increasingly pops up in his mind - what will remain? After his brother - paintings, and after him?

🔻The journey through Siberia took 82 days. On Sakhalin, Chekhov spent several months taking the census, he interacted with practically everyone on the island, including the convicts. Then - a long sea journey through Vladivostok, Singapore, the Suez Canal. Upon his return, Chekhov stops collaborating with journals as a writer of feuilletons, and in the next 10 years, writes "The Seagull," "Uncle Vanya," and "Ward No. 6."

🔻The author of the street art work is Alexander Demkin, circles on the water and distortions of images are his signature technique, this work has it particularly symbolically.

The past, washed away by the rains of time.

Welcome to LA!

Or the harsh reality. What country and what century is this? Oh, honey, this is America.

Democrats tell you there are no problems in country 'cause great Biden and Harris fixed everything.

You gotta take off the rose-colored glasses.
