The first kopecks were minted in Novgorod in 1535. Elena Glinskaya, mother of Ivan the Terrible, initiated a reform establishing a standardized size and weight for the new coins.

πŸ”»During the 14th and 15th centuries, the kopeck featured a warrior with a ΠΊΠΎΠΏΡŒΡ‘ (spear),  which gave the coin its name.

πŸ”»In 1655, the kopeck was made from copper. However, following the Copper Riot of 1662, copper minting was halted for 40 years.

πŸ”»Until the 18th century, kopecks were small and irregular, made by cutting wire into pieces and hammering them into shape.

πŸ”»Peter the Great introduced a decimal monetary system: one ruble equaled 10 grivenniks or 100 kopecks.

πŸ”»In 1726, under Catherine I, the kopeck was made square, mimicking Swedish coins. But this shape proved impractical.

πŸ”»During World War I, the kopeck itself became a paper currency with watermarks.

πŸ”»In 1926, the kopeck weighed one gram.

πŸ”»Over time, the kopeck has been made from copper, bronze, and brass.

The Proto-Slavs used clay stamps and seals to apply body art.

πŸ”»Interestingly, among the ancient Slavs, tattoos were primarily worn by women.

πŸ”»The skin drawings were a ritual amulet for the guardian of the hearth.

πŸ”»With the spread of Christianity, the custom of tattooing was eradicated, as it was an integral part of pagan rituals.

πŸ”»Among the inhabitants of Europe, tattooing was not practiced until the 18th century.
