🇬🇧 Papa Carlo is punishing Buratino.
Everyone knows the fairy tale 'Pinocchio' and its Soviet version by Alexey Tolstoy - 'Буратино' [ buratina ].
In Russian there's an interesting expression:
• Пахать как папа Карло
[ pakhat' kak papa Karla ]
or
• Вкалывать как папа Карло
[ vkalyvat' kak papa Karla ]
which means to work too hard and too long, to work like a beaver.
• Я пашу как папа Карло, а он развлекается!
[ ya pashy kak papa Karla, a on razvlekayetsa ]

• Москва слезам не верит.
[ maskva slizam ne verit ]
Moscow doesn't believe in tears.
🔻This expression is actually Russian; it arose during the rise of the Moscow principality, when large tribute was collected from other cities and principalities. Cities sent petitioners to Moscow with complaints of injustice. Such petitioners were often punished extremely cruelly in order to intimidate the dissatisfied.
🔻In 1980 a film with this tittle was short by Mosfilm. It became one of the most popular films of the time!
⏺ You can watch it either with Russian or English subtitles. 👇

• Чушпан
[chush-pan]
🔻Russian modern cinema has suddenly revived a word from the criminal world of the 80s.
🔻It appeared in a 2023 Russian crime drama television series "Слово пацана. Кровь на асфальте" (The Boy's Word: Blood on the Asphalt)
🔻Moreover, 'чушпан' was used back in the 30-50s in relation to those who first ended up in a labor prison.
🔻Later, ordinary people who were not involved in the criminal world and who lived outside gangs began to be disparagingly called this word.

• Нам нужна одна победа
[nam nuzh-na ad-na pa-be-da]
SLT: We Need Only Victory
🔻One of the most appealing songs about the Great Patriotic War, 'Нам нужна одна победа' which turned out to be very actual nowadays, was written by the poet and composer Bulat Okudzhava for Andrei Smirnov’s film 'Белорусский Вокзал' (Belorussky Station), which was released in 1971.
🔻The All-Russian musical project "Музыка вместе" sang this song with the military personnel involved in the special military operation, as well as with the residents of the new regions reunited with Russia (Donetsk, Lugansk, Khersonskaya and Zaporozhskaya Regions).
🔻Listen, learn new words, practice and sing along.
📎 In the video I've added the approximate translation of the song:
1 line is in Russian
2 line is phonetic transliteration
3 line is in English
