• Как сельди в бочке
[kak sel'dyot-ka v boch-ke]
SLT: Like herring in a barrel

🔻This proverb is used to describe a situation where there is very little space or where there are too many people in one place.

🔻It is similar to the English expression “packed like sardines”.

😀Today is also:

• День Гранёного Стакана
[den' gra-nyo-na-va sta-ka-na]
The Day of Faceted Glass

🔻Actually, the faceted Soviet glass is not as simple as it seems. It has 14 facets, which represents the 14 Union Republics, and the rim at the top symbolizes Russia, which unites the republics.

🔻The creator of this symbol is sculptor Vera Mukhina, the author of the composition “Worker and Kolkhoz Woman” at VDNKh.

🔻There is a colloquial expression, which is not connected with alcohol though:

• Всё устаканится!
[fsyo us-ta-ka-ni-tsa]
SLT: It's hard to translate it literally😀
Everything will be alright!
The situation will stabilize!

It will all fall into place!

Накося-выкуси!
[na-ka-sya vy-ku-si]
Or
Накось-выкуси!
  [na-kas' vy-ku-si]

Meaning:
It translates to "Don't even dream about it! You won't get it!"

🔻This expression is, frankly, rude. In the past, it was often accompanied by the gesture of showing the fig.

🔻Here are some other expressions for refusal:

Дудки!
[dut-ki]
SLT: Fifes!
No way!

Фигушки!
[fi-gush-ki]
SLT:A fig to you!
Not a chance!

Сейчас! (Щас!/Ща!)
[siy-chas (shchas, shcha)
SLT: Now!
Not now!

Держи карман шире!
[der-zhi kar-man shy-re]
SLT: Hold your pocket wide!
Don't get your hopes up!

👋Доброе утро, товарищи!

Одной левой
[ad-noy le-vay]
SLT: With just one's left hand

🔻This is a Russian idiom that means "easily" or "without any effort."

🔻It's often used to describe someone who is skilled or talented at something, and can do it effortlessly.

🔻The expression is based on the idea that using only your left hand is more difficult than using both hands, so if someone can do something with just their left hand, they must be very skilled.

Example:
Он справился с ним одной левой!
[on spra-vil-sya s nim ad-noy le-vay]
🇬🇧 He coped with (beat) him with just his left hand!

What are some similar expressions in your language?

Напихать полную панамку
[na-pi-khat' pol-nu-yu pa-nam-ku]
SLT: to stuff a full panama hat

'Панамка' is a diminutive form from the femin.noun 'панама'

Meaning
This slang expression has nothing to do with hats:
1) In terms of the internet communication it means to give someone a mouthful, to pour a pre-prepared set of counter-arguments and biting/abusing remarks/critisism on an opponent (usually on the internet forums)

2) It's also a way of saying to beat someone up or to give someone a good thrashing.

3) In a work context, this expression can be used to describe a large volume of work or information that needs to be done.

Example:
За его оскорбительные слова о России ему напихали полную панамку в комментах.
[za yi-vo as-kar-bi-tel'-ny-ye sla-va a Rus-si-i yi-mu na-pi-kha-li pol-nu-yu pa-nam-ku]
🇬🇧 He was given a mouthful in the comments for his offensive remarks about Russia.

👋Доброе утро, товарищи!

Каре
[ka-re]
=
Also playful / informal:
Kарешка
[ka-resh-ka]
Bob haircut

Подстричься под каре
[pat-strich-sya pat ka-re]
To get a bob haircut

🔻This haircut is pretty popular in Russia. It is also a theme for memes and jokes.

🔻You'll definitely come across the reason for getting a bob haircut for women in Russian: it means a total change of lifestyle after splitting up with a boyfriend.
