Why is privacy important to me? This is a very interesting question. Let's start with the fact that according to Article 8 (Right to respect for private and family life) of the ‘Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms’ from November 4, 1950, everyone has the right to privacy, as well as privacy of correspondence and the conditions of interference with this right only on the basis of the law and in exceptional cases.
Based on this, my question is - is it really that every day each of us does something that gives corporations the right to interfere in personal life?
A simple example. When we say something near our phone, and then start looking for it in Google, Google immediately gives us clues in the form of words we said earlier near our phone. I think you know what I am talking about.
Isn't this a violation of your privacy? Or is Google a government organization that enforces the rule of law? In my opinion, no.
For me, privacy is important because I don't want google, facebook, etc. knew all my conversations, all my thoughts. But they do it, and collect a database for each Internet user. Modern technology is already something more than a smartphone in your hands. This is the work of the biggest corporations that run not only our Facebook and Google on your phones, but also the government that encourages such actions of such companies.

“Privacy is important to me because it’s an inherent right in the United States of America. While not explicitly granted in the constitution, there are several Amendments that speak to privacy. 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 9th, and 14th. The ability to have your data remain private can protect you from discriminatory acts, theft, unlawful searches, and the information you might view on the Internet and want to keep in-house. When I say discriminatory acts, I’m speaking to several things. If someone knows that you have a particular health issue, they may not hire you for a job. If someone knows your political leaning, they may not select you for that promotion. A lack of privacy has the potential to impact one’s life in many ways. In today’s information age, privacy is taken lightly and information is shared loosely, particularly on social media. The fact that data lives on the Internet forever may not impact a person today if their information is compromised, but it may have significant impact years down the road. So privacy matters to me, because the care you take with your privacy can actually shape certain situations in your life, so I encourage everyone to value privacy.”

Privacy is important to me not only because it’s the most basic human right we have and must retain, but also because I want to be in power to protect myself from all unwarranted interferences whether it being companies or individuals. It allows me to chose how I want to interact with the world and make my own decisions, that are not influenced by corporations tracking everything we do online, making decisions for us and monetizing our data. I believe in a fully decentralized and free society where people can chose what they want to share, what they want to monetize and what they want to keep private, just for themselves.
Without having knowledge of what data is being used, how it is being used, the ability to correct and amend it, we are virtually helpless in today’s world.
