The organizer announced at the intersection of Chater Street and Peddar Street that it was the terminal point of the march, reminding citizens that there were police checking points at Cross Harbour Tunnel.

In the meantime, civilians formed a defensive umbrella formation for protection as the riot police became hostile at Peddar Street.

17:45 The Human Rights Rally of Solidarity with Uyghur Assembly was being held peacefully at Edinburgh Place until the sudden arrival of riot police, supposedly triggered by the removal of the Chinese national flag hung outside of City Hall. Confusion and chaos ensued as pepper spray and batons were used on the crowd. There are reports of a live gun being aimed at protesters and a rubber bullet being fired. The organisers announced the event over and groups of riot police and police vans are now being used to urge protesters to leave the area.

Police Intimidated Holiday Makers on the Street of Hong Kong before Christmas

Riot police suddenly pushed forward to the intersaction outside the back door of Langham Place. They charged into the crowds with pepper spray in their hand. Out of control, police threatened and sworn foul words at civilians.

The police also shone high intensity of white lights, in an attempt to disperse civilians who were out to celebrate Christmas Eve.

Three minutes later, all riot police regrouped and moved forward to the intersaction point of Argyle Street and Shang Tung Street. Civilians said to riot police, "walk back to the side walk!”--what the police usually order press and passersby.

Police Disperse Citizens who Wait For New Year Countdown

Police made broadcast at Mong Kok Police Station, “Do not take lead in clamoring, and immediately leave Prince Edward Road West and Nathan Road area.”

Meanwhile, police also shone bright lights at the crowd nearby. Bystanders were dissatisfied and shouted back, “There is no curfew in Hong Kong. Can't we stay for counting down? Are you going crazy?”

Civilians also chanted "See you on January 1 at Victoria Park [for protest assembly]", "[Police] Not showing up on 721” and “[Police] Killing people on 831”.

Editor's Note: The 7.21 incident refers to the Triad attack on civilians at Yuen Long West Rail station when no police showed up. 8.31 refers to the tragic incident when several protesters were found missing after brutal police arrest at Prince Edward Station on 31 August 2019.
