Promotional material showing Xi Jinping and Carrie Lam kissing: “Gross but to the Point”

(17 Nov) Earlier today, about 50 people in Hong Kong built a wall from cardboard boxes at Edinburgh Square in Central. They started building it since 2pm and was finished 2 hours later. The wall was about 50 metres wide and 2 metres tall. Citizens stuck propaganda on the cardboard wall.

Event organiser Ciel said Live Room crowdfunded $25,000 dollars and bought 155 cardboard boxes to symbolise the 155km-long Berlin Wall. The wall had a picture of Xi Jinping and Carrie Lam hugging and kissing to symbolise a kiss between the communist leader and his puppet. He said frankly, "It was gross, but to the point." He then said there were 30 years of oppression prior to the collapse of Eastern Europe in 1989. The situation is very similar to that of China and Hong Kong now. "West Germans saw the dire situation of East Germans, just as we in Hong Kong watched from a river away, the Cultural Revolution and Great Famine in the old days. This time the two walls have the authoritarian regime on one side, and people's vision on the other. One of the walls symbolises the obstruction of free communications of the people by the authoritarian regime and must be overthrown."

University student Cheng said he once travelled to Berlin, Germany a few years ago. He thinks that people of Eastern Europe and East Berlin spent a long time to pursue democracy. Eventually, they got liberated from the Soviets successfully. Their spirit and courage is worth learning and reflecting upon by the people of Hong Kong (Hongkongers). He thought this event was especially meaningful. "Perhaps many people have been tired of the usual rallies. Making a wall from cardboard is very creative. We can even write our demands on the cardboard and turn it into a Lennon wall." He said he believed the Chinese Communist Party will eventually fall, and hope Hongkongers will continue the resistance. "The 5000 years of ups and downs in China's history shows that any dynasty, no matter how mighty, would fall someday."

//Britain’s government made a firm decision to allow China’s Huawei to have a role in building the country’s 5G phone network and as far as the foreign ministry’s top official understands it is not being reopened, he said on Tuesday.

//Britain decided in January to allow Huawei into what the government said were non-sensitive parts of its 5G network, capping its involvement at 35%.

//“China is a very important partner of the United Kingdom and I think it’s compatible to proceed with the Huawei decision and have the strategically independent relationship that I have been talking about.”Simon McDonald said.
