Hong Kong Police Verbally Abuse Reporters

The video filmed by Stand News in Causeway Bay captures how the masked riot police mocked reporters as "reflective man" [probably for wearing reflective vest]. Police also asked reporters to "get lost" and "go back home to sleep".

A similar report was published by InMedia in the same evening. When checking the documents of 20 reporters in Causeway Bay, police said to members of the press: “You are not a member of the Journalist Association. Hence, you are not a reporter”, “I don’t want to see you in a reflective vest. This will mislead us to think that you are a reporter”. Do not obstruct the real reporters from reporting”. Afterwards, reporters being checked wear asked to leave from E Point Road.

Press Under Police Attack on the First Day of 2020

Even before the New Year's March could take place on the first day of 2020, Hong Kong police had fired tear gas and made arrests as the new year began.

In Mongkok, police stormed in back alleys to subdue pedestrians by pressing them on the ground. A USP Reporter was also shoved and attacked by the police with baton. The said reporter was hit in the head. If the reporter was not wearing a helmet, he would have been severely injured.

The USP reporter was, however, not only member of the press subject to police brutality.

Mother of Two Urges Hong Kongers Stand as One to Safeguard Students

2020 | Edinburgh Place, Central

Annie, a mother of 2 children, came back to Hong Kong from England, recalled her conversation with her children, where they asked whether they could study abroad.

Annie said that the difficulties that the teachers faced in order to rescue their young students from the Police during the protests and from the Siege of PolyU will forever be etched in her memory.

She stressed, “We shouldn’t distance ourselves from each other”, and urged participants to join school councils or run for the Legislative Council election. "We should work together for the betterment of Hong Kong."
