Jury Rules Death Cause of Pro-democracy student Alex Chow Undetermined
On Jan 9, 2021, the jury returned an open verdict in the death of 22-year-old university student #AlexChow Tsz-lok, following almost two days of deliberation.
The five-member jury, consisting of two men and three women, told the Coroner's Court that they were unable to determine the causes and circumstances of Chow's death.
The inquest into the death of the University of Science and Technology student lasted for almost four weeks, with nearly 50 witnesses summoned.
Speaking to reporters after the court ruling, Chow's father, said he respects the verdict and thanked the jurors for their hard work.
"They took the case very seriously and have worked so hard. I want to tell Tsz-lok that we've tried our best to find out the truth, even though many questions remain unanswered and we are still some distance away from being able to get to the very bottom of what happened", he said, teary-eyed.

January 22, 2021 marks the sixteenth month since the death of 15-year-old pro-democracy student Chan Yin-Lam. A large number of police officers and police vehicles deployed in Tseung Kwun O, Hong Kong to curb memorial activities.
While visiting the parking area of Sheung Tak Estate with a former journalist of Stand News in the past, Granny Wong had mourned the casaulties in Hong Kong's pro-democracy movement, crying “Yin-Lam! Tze-Lok! Where are you? Please tell me who kill you.”
On Jan 23, 2021, Granny Wong showed up as usual carrying a yellow umbrella and a reusable bag printed with the UK flag. Also, she held a signboard which wrote "Injustice to be redressed".
Granny Wong was arrested of obstructing police officers and not providing identification card, and probably sent to the Tseung Kwun O.

District Councillor Collects Flowers from Hongkongers to Commemorate Casaulties of the Pro-democracy Movement
Lam Siu-ben, district councillor of Yau Tsim Mong district collected 4 boxed of white flowers from civilians who hope to pay tribute to the casaulty of the pro-democracy movement.
The day marks 17 months after the 8.31 Prince Edward Station attack by the police. On August 31, 2019, the police attacked train passengers with pepper spray and baton inside the trains and on the concourse. During the time, first aiders and reporters were barred from entering the station to attend to the injured civilians and monitor the police. The police claimed no civilian had been killed.
While memorial activities become more and more difficult to carry out under the control of the authorities, the district councilor said he would bring the flowers to the Sandy Ridge Cemetery where unidentified bodies were buried by the goverment in Hong Kong.

On June 6, 2021, the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions (#HKCTU), a pro-democracy labour rights group, held a memorial for Chinese dissident Li Wangyang (1950-2012) who passed away on the day 9 years ago in 2012.
After being jailed by the Chinese authorities for 21 years, Li who had become blind and nearly deaf by then was found dead in a hospital room. The #ChineseCommunistParty (#CCP) government initially claimed that Li had "committed suicide".
Li's sudden death -- which took place just a few days after he in an interview called for the vindication of the 1989 June 4th #TiananmenMassacre -- had stirred up outcry in Hong Kong and abroad. The real cause of his death remained in the shadow.
The HKCTU organized a commemorative event to pay tribute to Li's perseverance in fighting against the regime.
#ChowHangTung, vice chairperson of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China who was arrested by the Hong Kong police on the morning of June 4, 2021, joined the memorial on bail.
Chow said, "The regime does not win even by imprisoning us. As long as we manage to reinforce the movement during the process, we are not losing."

The next day, on June 16, 2019, over 2 million Hongkongers took it to the street to voice out their democratic demands and opposition to extradition to China.
Two years on, the situation in Hong Kong has not been improved, but Marco Leung used his life to remind Hongkongers to persist.
On June 15, 2021, hundreds of Hongkongers went to the site to pay tribute to Leung. A sea of flowers was formed.
