Pro-China, Pro-police Supporters Attacked Journalists, Called Pro-democracy Protesters "cockroaches" and Demanded recount in Pro-democracy Constituencies

Pro-China, pro-police supporters who were mainly middle-aged and elderly held a rally in Wan Chai. Waving Chinese national flag and singing the Chinese national anthem, participants called themselves "patriots".

They openly defamed pro-democracy protesters as "cockroaches" and "trash", and accused the newly-elected pro-democracy district councillors of using "unscrupulous means" to win in the recent election.

The group claimed that the pro-democracy groups obstructed many people from casting their vote and demanded a recount in constituencies where pro-democracy candidates had won.

The crowd also showed their pro-police stance and called for enactment of Article 23, a controversial anti-subversion bill that was shelved after half a million took it to the street in 2003.

The pro-police, pro-China crowd vented out their anger to the media. Journalists were abused, as they were pictured and hit with the Chinese national flags. The crowd also held up posters that read “we hate fake news”.

Riot police Repeatedly Fire Tear Gas, Causing Residents not Able to Return Home for A Month

Ms Ko stated that repeated firing of tear gas near her residence not only displaced her and her son from their home, but also caused physical harm. Ms Ko has been suffering from chest pains and had difficulty breathing. Her 5-year-old son has developed rashes on his back and thigh. In the past few weeks, once he coughs, thick and solid lump of black mucus would be spat out.

She stated that she attempted to clean her home up and move back to her residence last week. However, the smell of tear gas residue was still strong and “despite being in full protective clothing and a mask on, the smell was still irritating. If I attempted to stay at home for a longer period, my tongue had become paralysed. “

Stand With #Yuli Rally

Citizens expressed their support for Indonesian domestic worker and writer Yuli Riswati in a rally at Edinburgh Place.

In a long-distance call, Yuli told the participants in Cantonese that she went to see a doctor because she knew many people were worried about her. Her health condition had now improved.

Yuli pointed out that being detained by the Hong Kong authorities in the Castle Peak Immigration Center (CIC) was harder than being jailed. In the prison, at least she could know the date of release, but she had no idea when she would be free again during her detention in CIC.

During her detention, the Hong Kong Immigration Department did not arrange a female doctor to check her body. It had disturbed her as a Muslim.

Yuli sent a message to all Hong Kong people hoping they could also care about the human rights of her fellow citizens, other domestic helpers and other detainees. Lastly, she chanted "Hongkongers, fight on!" with the rally participants.

Gone Out of Control: Hong Kong Police Tried to Surround and Trap Peaceful Protesters

The frontline police officers have completely gone out of control, Figo Chan, Civil Human Rights Front’s vice convener stated at a press conference that took place after the march on December 8.

The group condemned the Police misconduct and said that the Police must be accountable for their attempt to surround and trap citizens participating at a peaceful protest.

“In the absence of any violation of the law, the Police had sealed off all the routes to intimidate citizens. This is absolutely outrageous. The frontline police officers have completely gone out of control. Tang Ping-Keung (Police Commissioner) must immediately provide an explanation to the actions of the police.”
