Jailed Protester Thanks Fellow Hongkongers for Their Care and Concern

A jailed pro-democracy protester 'Collector' (psuedonym) wrote a thank you letter to fellow Hongkongers for their heartwarming concerns and encouragement despite the difficult times during the pandemic.

'Collector' thanked those who bought and sent him books for him to read in prison; those who participated in the "write with you" program and send him words of encouragement.

At the end of the letter, he promised his fellow Hongkongers that he would not give up in the pursuit of democracy. He also asked Hongkongers to fight on together.

#RTHK censors radio show content, calling lyrics from Les Misérables “controversial"

The public broadcaster RTHK has once again removed radio show content, citing "controversial material" as a reason.

In the radio progran “Letter to Hong Kong” scheduled to be aired on April 4, 2021, a letter that district councillor #MarkMo wrote to a detainee was originay planned to be read.

However, on Apr 2, 2021, Mo received a notification from RTHK that based on the new programme editor regulations, pre-approval is required before any controversial topic is put on the show and therefore his letter would not be read out on the show on Apr 4.

The show decided to read a letter written by previous chairman of RTHK Board of Advisors Chan Kin-keung.

According to Mo, he wrote the letter to a detainee that he visited for work reasons. The letter quoted some lyrics from Les Misérables, and mentioned that the democratic camp and the resistance camp are both facing challenges and are reflecting how they should keep going under Hong Kong’s current situation. He was not given a date when the letter will be read.

Support Group for Hong Kong's Pro-democracy Political Prisoners Faces Disbandment

#WallFare is a prisoner support group initiated by former pro-democracy lawmaker and social worker Shiu Ka-chun (#BottleShiu).

The group is known for providing support for detained and jailed pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong and their families. The group has helped families purchase prison-approved supply for inmates, coordinated letter-writing schemes to help inmates communicate with the outside world, and offering counselling services for families.

The group has come under pressure from Hong Kong authorities, with Secretary for Security #ChrisTang accusing (without naming) organizations for recruiting prisoners to develop influence among inmates and endanger national security while incarcerated.

Shiu, who started the support group 9 months ago, said on September 14, 2021 that the group would be disbanded and that he would release a statement soon. "The most important for Hongkongers is to stay alive," he said.
