Pakistan provides 315,000 effective tablets overnight to treat COVID-19 in China

(22 Feb) Chloroquine phosphate is found to be able to treat COVID-19 in mainland China, however such production was suspended in China for 20 years.

On 5 February, Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited, GPHL, first purchased 15,000 tablets of chloroquine phosphate in Pakistan through various channels, and then purchased another 200,000 tablets. The drugs arrived in Guangzhou at 7:00 p.m. on 8 February.

Bayer China, a medical care and healthcare company in China, had also made an emergency deployment to purchase chloroquine phosphate tablets in Pakistan at the beginning of February and the batch of medicines was completed in 24 hours, and that 200,000 of the 300,000 tablets were "sold" to Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited (GPHL) at zero renminbi.

It took less than 4 days from the purchased medicines in Pakistan to arriving in Guangzhou. It is not easy for Pakistan to urgently collect, transport and cooperate to undertake the fastest international rescue for dispensing the effective drugs to treat COVID-19, as transport infrastructure in Pakistan is not well developed and currently it is suffering from severe locust plague.

China cares about Pakistan

China promised to send top-quality N-95 respirstors to #Pakistan , in a bid to prove to the world the care she has for the other nations.

However, it was later discovered that some of these masks were made out of used undergarments.

#China was trying to put on a front as the new 'big brother', but has this gesture towards Pakistan further exposed what lies beneath the facade that has been hidden from the eyes of the world, underneath thick sheets of opaqueness reinforced and fortified by the Great Chinese Firewall and the infamous Chinese #propaganda ?

Chinese Representative in Geneva Chen Xu Criticizes US, UK and Canada for Interfering in Hong Kong Affairs. China Slammed Table to Obstruct Speech on Xinjiang at United Nations Human Rights Council

The United Nations Human Rights Council held its 45th session yesterday (23rd Sep), during which China was brought into attention for issues related to Hong Kong and Xinjiang. At a video conference held by China, Chen Xu, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, expressly criticized “a minority of countries” including US, UK, Canada, etc for interfering in Hong Kong’s affairs for political reasons and damaging China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. A Taiwanese media outlet reported that Hillel Neuer, Chief Executive Officer of the “United Nations Watch”, mentioned issues related to the Xinjiang concentration camp at a Council session and was interrupted by a female Chinese representative. The representative demanded that Neuer “stop the speech at once”, and was eventually given a warning by the president of the council.

Laos and Pakistani Representatives Support Hong Kong National Security Law

The Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva organised a video conference entitled “Hong Kong: Enjoy Human Rights in a Safer Environment” at the Council. Chen stated that the implementation of the Hong Kong national security law by China contributes to the stability and longevity of the “one country two systems”, ensuring Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability in the long run. He said that it was upheld by the whole nation resolutely, including all sectors in Hong Kong, and supported by the majority of members of the international society. During the conference, the representatives of Laos and Pakistan also spoke in support of the legislation. Chen stated that only “a minority of countries” has interfered with Hong Kong’s affairs for political reasons and that their agendas were destined to fail.

Xi Junjian, Deputy Director of the Law Department of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, also indicated that the Hong Kong national security law embodied the principles of respect and protection for human rights adequately, and fully complied with the International Bill of Human Rights. He stated that because the law is targeted at criminal offences that harm national security, it does not affect the majority of law-abiding Hong Kong citizens.

“United Nations Watch” Brought Attention to Xinjiang Concentration Camps, China Slammed Table to Interfere

According to a report from Radio Taiwan International, Hillil Neuer, a representative of the non-profit organisation “United Nations Watch”, spoke at the Council that Muslims around the world should be free and safe to pray. He stated that China has voted for every resolution on Islamophobia, but “in China, one million Uyghurs have been arbitrarily detained”. A female Chinese representative asked the president to stop Neuer’s speech at once, but the president allowed him to continue his speech. The Chinese representative then slammed the table in protest, which was followed by a speech by the UK representative, who agreed with the president’s decision to allow the “United Nations Watch” representative to continue his speech.

China subsequently expressed regret over the president’s decision to repeatedly allow Neuer to speak. Finally, the president gave China a reminder, “I’d like to recall that under the agenda item we’re discussing, speakers can make reference to specific country situations. Please prevent disturbing the proceedings of the room the next time.”

TikTok is Banned in Pakistan, Referring to Unfiltered “Immoral” Content

Pakistan telecommunication regulator announced the ban on the use of TikTok, a video-sharing social media application under a Chinese technology company ByteDance, as the regulator received numerous complaints on immoral and inappropriate content.

Pakistan telecommunication regulator stated that TikTok could file a complaint and they would review the ban policy after removing unlawful contents.

Reuter quoted three senior Pakistan officials as saying on Friday (October 9) that the government decided to ban the social media application TikTok as the application was not able to remove “immoral” content. A senior official who directly involved in this decision said that they had requested TikTok to set up an effective system to hide immoral and inappropriate content for many times. However, the platform has failed to satisfy the Pakistan government. The government therefore decided to ban TikTok.

Turkey, Iran, Pakistan rail link to China's Belt and Road

The governments of Turkey, Iran and Pakistan will revive a transnational rail service linking Istanbul, Tehran and Islamabad (ITI), one of the projects in China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

This project was launched in 2009 under the umbrella of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), a 10-member political and economic intergovernmental organization founded in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey.

China asked for additional guarantees from Pakistan and refused to give the complete concessional loan Islamabad.

That raises the question of how Pakistan will fund its railway network. Pakistan is expected to look for funding outside the BRI framework since China has no interest to offer financial support. China will lend political support to the ITI railroad because it complements the BRI. However, it still expects Iran, Pakistan and Turkey to bear costs and share risks if they wish to benefit from the trade and investment dividends a successful ITI railroad is expected to yield.

China's New Belt and Road Has Less Concrete, More Blockchain

The Covid-19 pandemic hasn’t been good for China’s Belt and Road Initiative. the virus “seriously affected” one-fifth of the projects in the China-centered infrastructure drive, according to the Ministry of foreign Affairs. Djibouti, Laos, Maldives, Pakistan, and Zambia, among others, have asked China to renegotiate or forgive Belt and Road loans. Kyrgyzstan and Sri Lanka have already extracted concessions.
