HK Government's surveillance plane followed boat of 12 Hongkongers before they were kidnapped by China

Apple Daily reports that a fixed wing aircraft under HK's Security Bureau was sent on a mission before dawn on Aug 23, 2020. From radar data, the flight's path and timing match the route of the speedboat of the 12 Hongkongers who were intercepted and kidnapped by China's Coastal Guard.

The fixed wing aircraft took off at 4:30am and flew in circles around Hong Kong's Sai Kung, until the time when the speedboat of the 12 left Sai Kung. The plane flew southeast, following the direction of the speedboat, up till the location where the 12 were intercepted by China's Coastal Guard, after which the plane flew back to Hong Kong International Airport.

The aircraft, Model B-LVB, is equipped with multi-purpose surveillance radar and radio wave geo-locating devices. Its surveillance records must contain information on the boats of the Hongkongers and China's Coastal Guard.

Unprecedented: HK Government Cancels Teacher's Registration, Due to Pro-independemce Accusation

The Hong Kong's Education Bureau announced on Oct 5, 2020 that 247 complaints of "professional misconduct" of teachers have been reported from June 2019 to August 2020.

The Bureau has so far completed investigation on 204 of the complaints. One teacher has been disqualified due to severe professional misconduct. The bureau claimed that the teacher had "designed teaching syllabus, material and worksheets that promotes Hong Kong Independence”. It was reported that the teacher worked at Alliance Primary School in Kowloon Tong.

On Sept 9, 2019, China-funded newspaper Ta Kung Pao posted a worksheet from the said primary school. In the worksheet titled “Do not cross the red line”, students were asked to comment on issues like Hong Kong Independence, freedom of speech, and what can possibly happen to Hong Kong without freedom of speech. It was also reported that students were also asked to watch an interview of Hong Kong National Party Founder Chan Ho-tin by RTHK which discussed Hong Kong Independence for in-class discussion. Students were not asked to bring any material home.

Spending on #PCR tests in China soared months before first #COVID19 cases revealed: Report

//Spending on tests used to detect coronavirus in China’s Hubei Province soared in the months before official reports of COVID-19 first emerged, suggesting the virus was spreading in the northern summer of 2019, well before it was publicly acknowledged by the Chinese government.

The data, compiled by Australian cyber security outfit #Internet2.0, showed that the sale of polymerase chain reaction tests – used to detect the presence of specific viruses – jumped to 67.4 million yuan ($14.3 million) in 2019, from 36.7 million yuan in 2018, and 29.1 million in 2017.

“We have come to the conclusion that based on the data analysed it suggests the virus was highly likely to be spreading virulently in Wuhan, China as early as the summer of 2019 and definitely by the early autumn,” the report states.//

Hong Kong Judge Questions Arrested Pro-democracy Barrister: Can You Access Internet in Jail?

Barrister Tonyee Chow Hang-tung is a pro-democracy activist in Hong Kong and the former Vice Chairperson of Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China. The now-disbanded Alliance was known for organizing the annual June 4 vigil in Hong Kong to commemorate the victims of the Tianamen Square Massacre in Beijing in 1989.

She was arrested for state subversion by the Hong Kong authority.

The authority accused her of calling on citizens to participate in June 4th commemorative event in 2020, which was banned by the government. Chow was charged with "inciting others to participate in an unauthorised assembly".

The case was heard in Hong Kong's West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts by Judge Chan Wai-mun on October 5, 2021.

Chow, who has been detained since her arrest, stated that she would defend herself and make her own statement. She will argue whether it is constitutional to restrict the dispute to freedom and whether the related article she disseminsted can ce considered as an "incitement".

Due to the limited resources she has when on remand, Chow asked for one to two weeks' time for preparation.

The Judge then questioned her, “Where did you find the law books in jail? Can you access Internet?” The query made citizens attending the session laughed.

Chow responded that she would rely on her professional knowledge of law and seek help from friends.

#China again blocks #WikimediaFoundation’s accreditation to World Intellectual Property Organization

//China today blocked the Wikimedia Foundation’s bid for observer status at the World Intellectual Property Organization (#WIPO) for the second timeafter the Foundation’s initial application in 2020.

WIPO is the #UnitedNations (#UN) organization that develops international treaties on copyright, patents, trademarks and related issues. China was again the only country to object to the accreditation of the Wikimedia Foundation as an official observer.

The Foundation will reapply for official observer status in 2022, but it will only be admitted by WIPO if China decides to lift its blockade.

WIPO’s work, which shapes international rules that affect the sharing of free knowledge, impacts Wikipedia’s ability to provide hundreds of millions of people with information in their own languages

As in 2020, China’s statement falsely suggested that the Wikimedia Foundation was spreading disinformation via the independent, volunteer-led #WikimediaTaiwan chapter. The United States and the group of industrialized countries at WIPO — which also includes many European Union member states, Australia, Canada, the Holy See, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United Kingdom — expressed their support for the Foundation’s application. Since WIPO is generally run by consensus, any one country may veto accreditation requests by non-governmental organizations.//
