Two-faced Chinese Rush to Cyprus: Run Before It's Too Late
Chinese dignitaries claim to be patriotic but secretly find an escape door for themselves. According to Al Jazeera, Cyprus issued 1,400 "Golden Passports" to applicants from more than 70 different countries, including 500 Chinese citizens, between 2017 and 2019. A Chinese businessman accepted an interview with Radio Free Asia, bluntly saying that everyone was aware of the crisis, "it will be too late if you don't escape (China) now."
Chinese businessman Mr. Zhang revealed that there had been definitely more than several hundreds officials who had migrated overseas or secretly obtained foreign passports in the past three years. One of the reasons for them to migrate overseas is because everyone is aware of the crisis brought on by the mad and impulsive Chinese leaders. All the hard work and wealth accumulated by the last generations will be washed down the drains in this crisis. Nobody can afford to lose. No one is willing to sacrifice their families' health and the future of their children to satisfy the Xi Jinping government's preposterous ambition.
Under the unfavorable factors such as economic downturn and massive collapse of private enterprises in China, Mr. Zhang said many of his friends decided to sell their assets and migrate overseas. "We were aware of it long time ago. It will be too late if you don't escape (China) now. They sold their local assets and made investment in foreign countries to actually preserve the value of their assets. Friends staying in China will have to constantly face the challenge of asset shrinkage."

The ‘Candidate Eligibility Review Committee’ of the Hong Kong SAR Government ousted CHENG Chung-tai, one of the final two opposition lawmakers from the city's lawmaking body, Legislative Council, on Thursday, 26 Aug, 2021. The news was announced by Hong Kong’s Chief Secretary John Lee Ka-chiu.
Hong Kong's next Chief Executive will be selected by a non-elected 1,500-membered electoral in 2022. All of the members must be screened by the ‘Candidate Eligibility Review Committee’, chaired by #JohnLee, the city's former Security Chief.
The Committee has reviewed 1,498 electoral candidates and disqualified two of them. One of them is opposition lawmaker CHENG Chung-tai. Lee claimed, once Cheng loses his electoral candidature, he is disqualified immediately from his lawmaker seat.
Lee claimed that the committee had asked Cheng for information in ‘some matters’. After Cheng replied, the Committee for ‘Safeguarding National Security of the Hong Kong SAR’ said Cheng did not qualify.

A private screening of a Hong Kong romance movie "Beyond the Dream" was held on August 27, 2021 by a pro-democracy district councilor, Derek Chu Kong-wai, in his councilor's office in Mong Kok, Hong Kong.
The film's director, #KiwiChow, was invited to the screening to share his thoughts on its making.
The screening, however, was interrupted by a large group of police officers and officers from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department.
The officers, initially, stationed outside Chu’s office while some entered his office to take photograph and record the scene. Soon after Kiwi Chow began sharing his thoughts on the making of the movie, police officers forced their way into the office space, accusing the attendees for breaching the 599G gathering restriction. Fine tickets were immediately issued to the 40 some citizens in attendance.
Police also set up a cordon line and told reporters to leave the office, calling it a crime scene.
Kiwi Chow and Chu Kong-wai spoke to media that the screening was a private event among friends. They felt that the actions of the police were absurd and unacceptable. Both questioned the police's rationale for sending an “undercover officer” to the private screening, as well as their definition of "public places".
However, Chow said that he still enjoyed the experience of the evening, because he was only sharing about the movie, and he hadn't talked about "Beyond the Dream" for quite some time. He also enjoyed the dialogue with the audience, and regretted that certain people had interfered.
"I really enjoy sharing about the movie, and I treasure the time of the dialogue. I have no fear; sharing the movie is a joy to me."

The president of the UK's Supreme Court said on August 27, 2021 that he and his deputy will continue to sit in Hong Kong's top court after finding the SAR's judiciary remains "largely independent”.
#RobertReed and deputy president #PatrickHodge both serve as non-permanent judges at Hong Kong's Court of Final Appeal, along with 10 other foreign judges.
In a statement, Lord Reed said he had been in discussion with the UK's foreign secretary and the Lord Chancellor regarding the situation in Hong Kong after the implementation of the national security law by Beijing.
"At this time, our shared assessment is that the judiciary in Hong Kong continues to act largely independently of government and their decisions continue to be consistent with the rule of law," he said.
Lord Reed has warned that he wouldn't serve or nominate any of his judges to sit on Hong Kong's top court if the national security law undermines judicial independence or the rule of law.
Since the implementation of Hong Kong's #NationalSecurityLaw in June 2020, two judges had already left their posts as non-permanent judges at the Court of Final Appeal.

Democratic Republic of Congo’s government is reviewing its $6 billion “infrastructure-for-minerals” deal with Chinese investors as part of a broader examination of mining contracts, Finance Minister Nicolas Kazadi told Reuters.
President Felix Tshisekedi said in May that some mining contracts could be reviewed because of concerns they are not sufficiently benefiting Congo, which is the world’s largest producer of cobalt and Africa’s leading miner of copper.
His government announced this month it had formed a commission to reassess the reserves and resources at China Molybdenum’s massive Tenke Fungurume copper and cobalt mine in order to “fairly lay claim to (its) rights”.
