War against violence: Hong Kong Police received $2.5 billion overtime allowance last year, police officers account for 90% of suspected corruption cases concerning civil servants relating to "anti-extradition" protests
Average monthly overtime allowance of $16,000 per person
The police's overtime allowance (OTA) continues to arouse public concern. Many Legislative Council members continued to follow up with supplementary questions on the latest figures during Finance Committee meetings. In response, the police indicated that the total expenditure on OTA for the whole of 2019-20 was approximately $2.52 billion, which was a $460 million increase from last month alone. On average, the year saw 13,000 recipients per month and a further increase of 1,000 "beneficiaries". Each recipient got an average of $16,000 per month.
This considerable remuneration failed to attract the public to join the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF). The number of applicants dropped sharply. In reply to a Finance Committee supplementary question by legislator Eddie Chu Hoi-dick, the police stated that the number of applicants for Inspector of Police (IP) was only 5,223 during the 2019-20 recruitment. Compared to 7,350 last year, it decreased by more than 2,000 or nearly 30%. In the same year, only 6,751 applied to be a Police Constable (PC), a decrease of 3,827 or 36% from the previous year.
55 officers ranked Superintendent or higher resigned
Retired police officers recruited as "replenishment"

Pro-democracy Singer Anthony Wong in Face of Political Suppression: "Sing on and Hang on, Hongkongers"
The authotities pressed charges on Hong Kong Cantopop star Anthony Wong and former pro-democracy lawmaker Au Nok-hin for "corruption" in connection to the Legislative Council by-election in 2018.
The ICAC claimed that Wong sang two songs at a rally organised by Au, who later won the election.
In court on August 5, 2021, The defence lawyer emphasized that Wong was not paid for the performance.
The prosecution then changed their tone and agreed to offer no evidence against Wong and Au. In the end, the court decided that the two would be bound over for 18 months in the sum of HK$2,000. Wong's charges would then be dismissed.
As a Cantopop icon and celebrity, Wong has been outspoken for his pro-democracy stance; while Au is already in prison for charges in related to the pro-democracy movement. Au is also one of the 47 democrats accused of violating the #NationalSecurityLaw for participating in the pro-democracy camp primaries in 2020.
Outside the court, Anthony Wong responded to media inquiry with a Cantopop song called "Ask me" written by legendary lyricist James Wong in 1976. In the part sung by Wong, the lyrics goes: "No matter how right or how wrong I am, I will face the outcome wholeheartedly; facing the world, whatever it comes, I am being myself."
Wong then told Hongkongers to "sing on and hang on".

Police Arrest Three Civilians
Over Call to Cast #BlankVotes in #LegCoElection in Hong Kong
On November 9, 2021, the Independent Commission Against Corruption (#ICAC) in Hong Kong arrested three people for allegedly sharing an online message asking citizens to cast blank votes for the Legislative Council (#LegCo) elections scheduled for December 19, 2021.
The two men and one woman, aged between 29 and 65, are accused of violating the #ElectionOrdinance, which bans the incitement of others not to vote, or to cast an invalid vote during the election period.
The ICAC said its officers seized a number of mobile phones, claiming that the Commision will take resolute enforcement actions to combat conduct manipulating and sabotaging the election.
Just a day ago (November 8, 2021), the Secretary for Security Chris PK Tang criticized self-exiled, now Australia-based activist #TedHui. Tang, a former police commissioner, said that encouraging people not to vote or cast an invalid ballot in LegCo election may violate the national security law.

Around noon, it was reported that over 900 #ICAC staff were deployed in different polling stations to ensure that the election is conducted in a "just and fair" manner. Earlier, the authorities announced that polling staff were forbidden from wearing yellow masks and anyone wearing an outfit with phrases like "Add Oil Hong Kong" would be asked to remove or cover it.

Ms Ng, in her sixties, told Stand News that "everyone knows" the agenda of the authorities behind offering free public transport on the Election Day. [Editor's note: Voters are always assigned to a polling station nearest to their residential address.] Regarding thd candidates in the nicknamed "Patriots-only" election, Ms Ng said, "I don't even know just one of them!"
Ms Ng added that the [goverment's] act would be futile, "Elderly like us only think about hiking, not voting."
Meanwhile, huge crowds were spotted at amusement parks like #DisneyLand and #OceanPark. Some tourists claimed that they have never seen so many people in the park.
This year, in Taikoo Shing, a residential area on Hong Kong Island East, the polling station was relatively 'empty' when compared to the 2016 LegCo Election and the 2019 District Council Election. Back then, voters had to line up and wait before casting their ballot. This year, there were more people queuing at the bus station.
Pro-Beijing figure Lo Man-sui, who occupied positions in CCP organizations like the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, said that "The winning of all 90 seats by the Pro-Establishment Camp would go against the original intent of the Central Government."
#TedHui, now-exiled former lawmaker in pro-democracy camp, answered the call by #HongKongWatch, uploading a photo of himself holding a sign that reads #ReleaseMyCandidate. Hui added that those who can represent Hongkongers' voices are in jail, and that ths only thing a Hongkonger can do is to boycott the election.
