The Stand News looked into the records of the Census and Statistics Department, the number of births in Hong Kong has been on the rise since 2005, and even rose to the peak in 2011-2012, staying at 95,300 and 93,200 births for two consecutive years, with a crude birth rate as high as 13.5 and 12.9, i.e. 12 to 13 births per 1,000 people in these two years. Among them, the number of "doubly non-permanent resident babies" in Hong Kong in 2011 was as high as 35,736. Subsequently, following the halt of the policy on doubly non-permanent resident children, the number of births dropped by 20% to 74,400 in 2013 and has been declining ever since.

How China is trying to limit births among Muslim populations in Xinjiang region

The Xinjiang city of Tiemenguan over the past two years has sought to boost its local constabulary by hiring new auxiliary police. Applicants must be under the age of 35, possess a high-school education and be in good physical condition.

But job-seekers must also meet a set of additional criteria, according to recruitment documents posted online. They must bring with them at least two relatives. And they must be Han Chinese, members of the country’s dominant ethnicity.

Hong Kong’s Population Shrinks By 89,000 in Just 12 Months

Hong Kong’s population kept falling at a record pace over the past 12 months, as people left the city in the wake of the pandemic and the national security law that curtailed protest and dissent.

The city saw an outflow of 89,200 residents in the year that ended in June, leaving its population at about 7.39 million, according to government data released Thursday. That maintains the 1.2% rate of population decline set at the end of last year, the biggest drop in at least six decades for the city.
