China State-owned Enterprise and Newspaper Boycott #AppleDaily, Further Endangering Free Speech in HK

VanGO, a convenience store directly controlled by the Chinese Central Government, stopped selling Apple Daily from August 28 onwards, affecting the sales of around 1,000 copies of the paper.

Without providing any explanation, the store called it a business decision.

An ex-legislator said that VanGo is owned by the CCP Government, so stop selling Apple Daily is an attempt to force the newspaper out of the market and browbeating critics into silence.

Meanwhile, China-owned, Peopleā€™s Daily, has released an editorial titled ā€œThe Toxicity of ā€œApple Dailyā€ is Worse than Coronavirusā€. The article compared Apple Daily to a virus and claimed Hong Kong was menaced by two viruses.

Are you afraid: Here comes public-private partnership again!

(20 Sep) On 16 September, the CCP held a national private economic united front work conference. At the same time, the General Office of the CPC Central Committee issued a report entitled "Opinions on Strengthening the United Front Work of Private Economy in the New Era". Both events were derived from Xi Jinpingā€™s recent work. Instructions for the united front work of the private economy.

//the ultimate goal of the united front on private enterprises is to nationalize the entirety. The situation is just like the "capitalist industrial and commercial transformation" in the early liberation period. The private enterprises were first turned into public-private joint ventures, and then forced to retreat from the private sector, turning public-private joint ventures into 100% state-owned enterprises. The big project of empty glove white wolf.

//The so-called communism is just like this, turning private property into the ownership of the whole people, and then turning all the people into private ownership of the Communist Partyā€™s powerful and powerful people. This great transfer of wealth has made the Communist Party superb.

//the private enterprise still belongs to the boss in name, but the CCPā€™s cadres will intervene in daily management

//the boss has no choice but to retreat, sell the company to the government, and take the money to leave.

//this time the united front has included Hong Kong and Macao companies, while Taiwan companies have been temporarily excluded.

//This incident is a big wake-up call to the big businessmen of Hong Kong's blue camp. Their individual investments in the mainland and the companies they have worked hard for many years have all been included in the scope of the CCPā€™s public-private partnership. From now on, being taken over by the CCP and turned into a state-owned enterprise is not a question of if, but a question of when.

//Within a few years, Hong Kong will soon become an ordinary city on the mainland.

Beijing Loyalist 'Teaches' Disqualified Lawmakers How to 'Whitewash' Themselves

On November 13, 2020, the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (#CPPCC) Hong Kong members formed "Friends of Hong Kong Association" and held a press conference, with a claim to support the National Peopleā€™s Congress (#NPC) as well as the Hong Kong government to disqualify the 4 LegCo councilors.

The Chairman of the Association, also a Standing Committee Member of the CPPCC National Committee, Henry Tang Ying-yen criticized the four disqualified as openly promoting ā€œHong Kong Independenceā€ and demanding the U.S. to put sanctions on China and Hong Kong.

However, Tang also suggested that the disqualified persons could send letters to the U.S., including publicly declaring regret for the past actions, withdrawing their speeches and asking the U.S. government to withdraw sanctions, may able to be ā€œwhitewashedā€ and become a candidate in future election.

China-born, Pro-Beijing financiers launch new Bauhinia Party in Hong Kong in a bid to "reform" the Opposition-less Legislature

After the disqualification and the mass resignation of the democrats in Hong Kong, the pro-Beijing Camp is expected to further monopolize the Legislative Council's chairs.

Li Shan, a China-born member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the director of the Credit Suisse Group, together with the chairman of China Broadcasting Holdings, Huang Qiuzhi, and the others, launched a new political party "Bauhinia Party" in Hong Kong in May 2020.

The party plans to recruit 250,000 party members with the goal of supporting "one country, two systems" and "a high degree of autonomy", and improving the relationship between Beijing and the SAR government.

The founder Li Shan showed strong support to the implementation of the National Security Law in Hong Kong, and even demanded another transitional system to prosecute and review cases involving breaches of #NationalSecurityLaw, and to complete the legislation of #Article23 of the Basic Law in the future.

He claimed that the newly established political party is a "determined defender" of the principle of "one country, two systems".

ā€˜Weā€™re coming to get youā€™: Chinaā€™s critics facing threats, retaliation for activism in Canada

Cherie Wong, the convener of Alliance Canada Hong Kong, an organizatiom fighting for the autonomy of Hong Kong, has been facing repeated death and rape threats.

For instance, in January 2020, even when she had a friend book her a hotel room in Vancouver under a different name, she received threats over the phone.

ā€œI sat in my room and just started shaking, realizing that I could be in very real danger and not knowing what to do,ā€ she said.

Wong said activists who are critical of the China often have their families in China visited by government officials.

ā€œThey come and knock on your door and say, ā€˜weā€™re coming in to talk to you about your family,ā€™ā€ she explained.

ā€œWhat dissidents face in Canada is often on the grey area of criminal harassment and just discomfort that you feel (in) daily life,ā€ Wong said.

Pro-democracy Hong Kong students in UK harassed by Chinese students

Hong Kong students studying abroad have recently shared their experiences of being harassed when organizing events in school campuses in the UK in support of the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong.

Jamie and Kitty are among the Hong Kong students who suffer mobbing. Chinese students called them ā€œcockroachesā€ and ā€œtraitorsā€ in Mandarin.

Kitty said the organizers of Hong Kong-related events, including herself, were all doxxed. Their personal information was posted on China social media groups and they were tagged as ā€œHong Kong Independence Supportersā€ and ā€œCockroachesā€.

Their application for holding the event was also held up by the school campus multiple times. The event was finally approved with the restriction that it has to be a silent event. ā€œ

It made me realize that our campus could no longer serve as a place for us to speak for the current situation in Hong Kongā€, said Kitty. She accused the school of ā€œfearing the loss of revenue by the tuition fees of Chinese studentsā€.

Moreover, students revealed that the #CCP used the Chinese Students and Scholars Association in the United Kingdom (#CSSAUK), as a tool to penetrate school campuses in the UK in which Chinese students are bribed into voting the CCP appointed persons to become committees of the Association.

According to the CSSAUK website, it is an association that is ā€œsupported by the Education Section of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the UKā€. It also claimed to be the largest Chinese association in the UK.

Concern over ā€˜#censorshipā€™ rules of New Zealand-Chinese news site Skykiwi.com

//An influential Chinese-language media outlet in #NewZealand warned its users their information could be shared with 'relevant state agencies' if they violated #ChineseLaws.

Skykiwi.com promotes itself as New Zealandā€™s ā€œmost influentialā€ Chinese-language media outlet, with half a million ā€˜daily average user visitsā€™ to its multi-platform website. Besides providing news coverage, the site also runs message boards where a variety of topics, including current affairs, are discussed. It claims to have 81,000 daily forum users.

...Until July, the terms of service for these forums contained clauses forbidding speech on a range of topics and said that users who violate Chinese laws in their postings could have their information shared with ā€œrelevant state agencies,ā€ indicating Chinaā€™s intelligence apparatus would be able to potentially identify them. It also meant criticism of Chinaā€™s ruling Communist Party was all but banned.

...A list of forbidden conduct on the forum, as seen last month, includes ā€œleaking state secretsā€, ā€œdamaging national honour and interestsā€, ā€œundermining national unityā€, inciting ā€œsubversion of state powerā€, "undermining national policies" and promoting ā€œcultsā€. Virtually identical wording was discovered on the terms of service for Chinaā€™s state-backed social media platform #WeChat and a list of ā€œprohibited contentā€ outlined by the Chinese Ministry of Culture.//
