Police Arrest Tai Po Pro-democracy District Councilor Twice For llegal Sssembly

Nim-chi Man, a pro-democracy district councilor, was arrested twice within 4 months: once when he was an election candidate in November 2019 when the police charged in an election campaign in Victoria Park; and another time in the evening of March 8 while he patrolled the neighborhood with two other district councilors.

As he was arrested during bail, his lawyer warned him that he might be immediately remanded when he goes to court. Knowing that he might not be able to serve his neighbourhood for a while, Man said he felt letting the community down, althought he did not regrethis decision.

Today shoppers in different shopping centers like Tai Po's Mega Mall and Diamond Hill's Hollywood Plaza are answering the call to chant protests slogans and sing protest songs in support of democracy.

Tai Po District Councilor received a warning for Setting up Polling Station: Even better outdoors since more people can see it.

Chow Yuen Wai, Tai Po district councillor, received a warning letter on July 10 issued by the Housing Authorities. Chow was warned that he could not use his office as a polling station. Otherwise, he migt violate the lease agreement.

Under the circumstances, the station was transformed into a street booth nearby. He said it waw tough for the volunteers due to being exposed to the sun and rain.

Neverthess, Chow said "[Setting the station] Outdoor is better since more people can see it!"

HK Police Breaches Privacy Law for Showing Reporter's ID and Press Cards In Front of Livestream Camera

The Privacy Commissioner on Dec 22, 2020 announced their investigation result regarding an incident involving a Hong Kong police officer displaying a #StandNews reporter’s ID card in front of a live-recording camera during a pro-democracy protest at Tai Po Mega Mall on Dec 26, 2019.

The police involved intercepted a reporter and demanded to see his ID and press cards. The officer then held up the reporter's press cards to a TV camera, and then did the same with the ID card, for around 40 seconds.

The Commisioner found that the police officer breached a data protection principle listed in the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.
