Different versions of the gunshot incident in Tai Po: Witness vis-a-vis Police

On their Facebook page, the police claimed that a male suspect fired a gun at the police at around 21:30 on December 20 while they were conducting arrests near Tai Po Tsui Ping Commercial Complex. One man was subdued at the scene and a suspected firearm was found as well.

There were different versions from major media and online videos.

According to an interview by Apple Daily with a restaurant employee, a loud "bang" was heard and the customers believed that a gun was fired. He then saw police officers in plain clothes forcing a youngster onto the ground. Meanwhile, a man was seen holding a firearm, to which he later placed on the ground. The gun was suspected to be one of the police's guns and the man was seen wiping his prints off the gun with his clothes. Later on, other men that were suspected to be police officers arrived the scene and covered the gun using a styrofoam box. (Photos: https://t.me/guardiansofhongkong/13608). Only one tall and slim man admitted himself as an officer.

Other videos showed an officer in plain clothes showing his warrant card. He clarified to the citizens at the scene that the police did not fire firearms, and asked if anyone was hurt (video: https://t.me/guardiansofhongkong/13604). Some citizens at the scene were dissatisfied with the situation, and asked for other officers to show their warrant cards as well.

At around 10 p.m., the subdued man was seen wearing a mask over his head with both hands cuffed. Officers also searched for other items in his bag.

Student Shot by Police With Live Round Plans to Plead Guilty to Riotting Charges: Honggongers Never Give Up

Tseng Tsz-Kin, a secondary school student who was shot by a live round by the Hong Kong police at Tsuen Wan during the Anti-Extradition Bill Protest in 2019, was accused of "rioting and assaulting police officers".

During the initial hearing on Oct 8, 2020, the prosecutor requested the case to be adjourned until December 22, 2020 since more time is needed to finalize the details of the case and the plea. The prosecutor also said that Tsang is likely to plead guilty. Tsang was granted bail while waiting for the next hearing.

Tsang told reporters that, upon discussion with his lawyer, “pleading guilty is the best decision”. He also indicated that he was ready for a jail sentence, and hoped that Hong Kongers can keep on fighting and never give up.

Student Shot by Police Flee Hong Kong: I Won't Get a Fair Trial Here

Tsang was due to appear in court on Dec 22, 2020, but did not show up. On the same day, South China Morning Post and Apple Daily published their interview with him. In the interviews, he revealed that he was among the activists rejected by US consulate in Hong Kong earlier.

According to Apple Daily, Tsang without disclosing his current location has fled Hong Kong and sever contacts with his family and friends. Tsang said
he would not face a fair trial in Hong Kong and it was very likely that he would immediately be remanded into custody if he showed up.

"The national security law wasn’t there when I was arrested. But since the law was imposed, the repression is intensifying. The situation in Hong Kong is getting worse. I don’t think I can stay in Hong Kong,” Tsang said.

Tsang revealed that he was one of five protesters who had attempted to seek asylum at the US consulate in Hong Kong on October 27, 2020.

After they were turned down, Tsang was scared that the National Security Police were awaiting them, “Having sought help from the US consulate, I can now be charged with collusion with foreign forces under the national security law"

Tsang said it would be harder for him to stay in Hong Kong, "there is no turning back...I chose this path and I will walk on."

Tsang's girlfriend Aurora (alias), aged 15, revealed in an earlier interview that she was seeking asylum in the UK. Tsang has been worrying about her safety, "My situation puts her at risk. This is one of the reasons why I urgently need to leave. We have no other option but to separate for some time--at least one of us can stay safe. I miss her. I hope we can reunite soon in a place of freedom.”
