Pro-China School in HK Harshly Penalizes Student for Showing Pro-democracy Slogan on Communication App and Threatens to Boot Him Out

The Heung To Middle School Students' Concern Group informed the media that the school principal and the discipline master met with a Form 4 student on Sept 7, 2020, as pro-democracy slogan was displayed as the student’s profile image on Microsoft Teams.

The student was severely penalized by the school for immediately suspending schooling for a week. Should the student want to continue his study, 2 major demerits are to be recorded to reflect his 'misconduct'. Besides, the school warned him from taking part in any pro-democracy activities in the future, or face expulsion straightaway.

In the presence of the student’s parents, the principal stressed that the school is handling the incident strictly, as it has "dented the school's reputation". It was said that the student has been "working against the school, blowing trivialities into a huge problem to attract public attention", which forced the school to make explanation to the public.

The school is well-known for being a pro-Chinese Communist Party education institution in Hong Kong. The principal even hinted for the student to “seek a new school” in the meeting, saying they did not believe the student would change his behavior. The school went on stressing that a dismissal could be the best solution.

Earlier in June this year, the same school dismissed a teacher for letting the students sing the song "May Glory To Hong Kong".

Disney Thanks Chinese Communist Party's Secret Agency Despite Their Brutal Crackdown on Uyghurs

After its lead actress' pro-police violence statement, Disney's new film Mulan was found acknowledging the Chinese Communist Party's security agency and entities in Xinjiang.

It was suggested that Disney may have sent its crew to Xinjiang in 2017, despite the Chinese government's increasing crackdown on Ugyhurs.

It is estimated that the Chinese government has imprisoned over 1 milliion uyghurs and other Muslim minorities in concentration camps for "reform", forcing them to give up their original languages, habits, cultures and religion.

The 8 entities acknowledged by Disney in Mulan's credits included the police bureau in Turpan, a city with large Uyghur population that has been subjected to mass surveillance and control by the CCP.

Police Charge Social worker With with rioting; Precedent Ruling to Define Social Workers, Medics and Legislator's Roles in Demonstrations

Director of the General Union of Social Workers and a member of Battlefield Social Worker, Jackie Chen Hung-sou and 7 others were charged by the police for rioting at a pro-democracy rally on August 31, 2019. The case was taken to the court on September 8, 2020.

The prosecutor claimed in his opening statement that Chen not only "refused to comply with Police's warning" to leave the scene, but also "yelled" at police officers, urged them to calm down and made other "provocative remarks".

It was said that Chen's presence at the scene made it "difficult" for police to disperse protesters. By "obstructing police from carrying out their duties", Chen created time for protesters to leave.

Former legislator of the Social Worker constituency, Shiu Ka-chun wrote on his Facebook on the same day:

"Our co-worker Jackie Chen Hung-sou was charged with rioting, and the 17-day long hearing commenced today, on a day it heavily rained.

Earlier when I was standing in the criminal dock at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts, friends of mine reminded me that I was not a criminal. This dock is not for criminal but defendant.

Today, Jackie was brought to the court for hearing, it was all of us, who are being trialed. The result will define the roles of social workers, medics, and legislators on the scene of a demonstration.

The stakes are high, and worth our attention, even amidst social distancing rule"

Police's Changing Statements About Bus Driver's Arrest

Version 1:
From the live broadcast provided by the police force on Sept 6, the officers at the scene reprimanded the bus driver for "honking for no reason" and being "provocative toward the police". The police claimed that the bus driver's behaviour "affected the police operation severely" and "might incite onlookers", so that the police had to stop the bus.

Version 2:
On their Facebook page, the police force on Sept 6 did not mention the honk, but accused the driver of "dangerous driving". This was said to be the reason why the police intercepted the bus.

Version 3:
On the morning of Sept 7, police replied to a media inquiry, stressing that the bus driver was arrested for "dangerous driving". The police, however, added that they found a spanner in the belongings of the bus driver. The police, meanwhile, arrested him for possession of "offensive weapon".

Editor's note:
According to the New World First Bus Company Staff Union, it is common for bus drivers to carry a spanner with them, as it is a tool for calibrating the rear mirror.

On Sept 9, the New World First Bus Company said records show the bus driver was driving at about 10 to 35 km per hour at the time when police accused him of "dangerous driving".

In Hong Kong, Being Young is a Crime

Girl: Why are you making me look so old?
Woman: Being young is a crime...

========

In this latest cartoon by Hong Kong illustrator MandyCats, a distressed woman is putting make-up on a younger girl, purposefully to make her look older.

The satirical cartoon came after the Hong Kong police's brutal attack of a 12-year-old girl on September 6, 2020. The girl was on her way to a stationary shop but ended up being body slammed and subdued between the legs of several riot policemen. The force insisted that the 12-year-old had looked "suspicious".

The Chinese Communist Party Government released a publication concerning the National Security Law in Hong Kong. The publication has been listed on #Douban, a Chinese website that allows users to post reviews and comments, but has received very poor ratings (one out of five stars) since then.

Chinese netizens revealed that whenever a user gives low rating to the publication, their account would be disabled without explanation. More recently, the website went further to remove the rating and comment functions for the publication.

The full title of the said publication released by the Chinese Government is “Decision of the National People's Congress of the HKSAR on the Protection of National Security Law on the establishment and improvement of the legal system and enforcement mechanism for the protection of national security in the Hong Kong SAR.”

District Councilor denounces HK Police for providing inconsistent and confusing responses on a case involving police officers

On September 5, 2020, district councillor Lancelot Chan Wing-Tai, of the Eastern District, posted on Facebook two screenshots from a surveillance camera in a resident building.

The photos captured two blue-clad men poising as police officers, demanded to enter a building in Chai Wan.

At the request of the security guard, the two men showed warrants without photo nor ID number. The guard refused to let them into the building and the men left.

When Lancelot Chan raised an inquiry to the police force on this incident, the force replied that they were unable to identify these two men, so the case was listed as a “suspicious person's discovery” and investigation is underway.

In their response to media inquiry on September 6, the police force still described the case as a “suspicious person's discovery” where two men left the scene without providing information as requested by the security guard.

However, just a day later on 7 September, the police force changed their statement in a post on Facebook. The Police Force claimed that these two men belonged to the Criminal Headquarters of Hong Kong Island General District.

In other words, the Force changed their statement by reinstating the police identity of whon they called "police impersonators" just one day ago.

Contrary to the video footage and the Force themselves earlier, the Force now said that the two men "left the building after carrying out an investigation".

The district councillors then asked the police for further clarification as he pointed out the apparent inconsistencies in the police’s responses, the statement provided by the security guard and the video footage.

Chow, who had been representing #GwynethHo in her #HKPrimaries case, also wrote: "They could have told me earlier they're coming to get me; then I wouldn't need to stay up all night preparing for the court stuff."

"The worst part about getting arrested now, is I haven't brushed my teeth. What if my bad breath knocks out the National Security police?" She also asked her Facebook followers: "Any last words for me before I go?"

She also posted one final picture of the view from her law firm office window: "Seeing this view for the last time ..."
