Student S: “The police always claim that there are no arrestees voicing their sexual abuse and harassment cases, but I am here to tell you all about my experience"

Student S was among the 7 wounded arrestees in the Prince Edward Station on 31 August.

Student S recalled how a police officer in plain clothes slapped her breasts when he cuffed her with a zip tie in Kwai Chung Police Station on 1 September. A policewoman was also present at that point of time. On the same day in the 'stinking cell' where there was nothing covering the toilet area, two policewomen looked at her genitals frontally and observed her urinating, with other policemen only seven steps away and a surveillance camera installed right outside.

Later on the same day, she was transported from the “stinking cell” in the Police Station to San Uk Ling Detention Centre. Student S expressed her gratitude to social worker Chan Sau-hung who was among the arrestees being moved. Chan consoled them when they arrived at the holding center, telling them “don't be afraid, arrestees have the rights to ask for water.”

Mental Abuse in San Uk Ling Holding Center: Offering Neither Water Nor Blanket

Miss K believes that she belonged to the first batch of the victims in San Uk Ling Holding Center.

She was taken to the police station after being arrested on 5 August; in the midnight of 6 August, the police mentioned to “send them to rest” and then she was handcuffed and brought by coach to an isolated place, of which she was informed that they had arrived at San Uk Ling.

In the cell, each partition has a bed made of concrete, a squat toilet and nothing else. She and other victims were very thirsty and felt very cold; the police, however, rejected their requests for water and blankets.

Miss K witnessed how another female victim was pepper-sprayed everywhere on her face and hands. She suffered severely from irritation from the rashes and the painful burning of her skin; yet the police refused to take her to the hospital upon her request, claiming that it was due to the lack of manpower. Even after Miss K left, this female victim was not sent to the hospital.

An older police criticized Miss K of not being able to think clearly and not knowing the truth, despite having a job and earning a salary.

As Miss K had her fingerprints taken and her hands stained with ink, she was brought to wash her hand. The water pressure was so high that water was splashed all over her body. The police shamed her and laughed at her as if it is a “show in the circus”. She felt extremely humiliated.

Police Say "Raping Boys in San Uk Ling is Fun"

In Taikoo, the arrested student reporter from Hong Kong Baptist University shouted that a male police officer whispered to him "raping boys in San Uk Ling is fun."

The arrested reporter also states that under no circumstances will he commit suicide.

Editor's note
:
1. "San Uk Ling" here refers to San Uk Ling Holding Center, the center of alleged mistreatment of protesters, including sexual assaults, depriving medical treatment and violence against suspects.

2. There had been suspicions of deaths caused by police brutality being covered up as suicide cases. This came after the police indiscriminately attacked civilians inside Prince Edward station on August 31 and the numbers of unexplained suicides rapidly emerging afterward.

First Conviction Based on "Online Comments" in Hong Kong Protests, Jugde Insists Message Leads to "Violent Actions"

A 38-year old construction worker, with the online alias “Kim Jong Un”, were charged with inciting others to take part in unlawful assembly. He was convicted on October 19, 2020.

The man had posted 4 comments in a public group on Facebook in 2019, expressing that “everyone besieges San Uk Ling” and that “rescuing the righteous ones is the most important”. The San Uk Ling Reception Center that is located near the Hong Kong-China border is known to be a site where police tortured pro-democracy protesters by means of physical, verbal and sexual violations.

The judge claimed it was "obvious" that the defendant tried to mobilise more than a few dozen citizens, as he used the word “everyone”. The Judge said the action of “besieging San Uk Ling” would not result in the release of the arrestees and the participants of assembly would probably "perform other acts", which "must involve violence". Based on these beliefs, the judge ruled that the the defendant is guilty.

The defendant was remanded in custody before a sentence will be announced on November 3, 2020.

This is the first conviction based on online comments in a Hong Kong's court since the 2019 Anti-Extradition Law Movement.
