Interview with Sham Shui Po District Councilor Ronald Tsui

Watch Video: https://t.me/guardiansofhongkong/21520

Q: What brought you here to Admiralty Centre outside the Legislative Council?

A: Both the National Anthem Bill and the Nation Security Law are both Chinese Communist Party's way of suppressing what's little left of Hong Kong’s rule of law and human rights, hence we came to Admiralty today to protest and show our discontent. The police have just cordoned off Admiralty Centre and warned us that we could not bring the protest to the Legislative Council (LegCo).

Q: Is the path to the LegCo all blocked?

A: As soon as we left the exit of Admiralty station, the police warned us that we could not go ahead. However, when we pulled up our protest banner, the police shuffled their cordon line backwards, so we could protest here in Admiralty Centre. As we reached the cordon line, the police used the microphone to warn us that we couldn’t move forward according to the law, otherwise they would use appropriate force to disperse us.

Q: Which ordinance did they cite for the dispersal?

A: It wasn’t clear and I couldn't hear properly. They cited a bunch of numbers, which I couldn’t hear properly. I assume that they used ordinances similar to those on Sunday, such as illegal assembly. I was at the Canal Road Flyover last Sunday as a district councilor to monitor the police’s actions and to monitor if they had used any violence. During the incident, we almost got shot by a pepper ball, and one of my colleague was shot on the arm.

Q: How is the colleague who got shot?

A: He was fine after bandaging.

Police Provoking Crowds, Calling the Public "Cockroaches" and "Rubbish"

1316 | Causeway Bay
Peaceful dispersion of protestors was promptly stopped as 2 more groups of riot police arrived from SOGO and set up cordon lines at Jardine’s Crescent.

When a district councilor moved forward for better inspection and journalists followed for a better picture, they were chastised and repeatedly rudely pushed by the police, with the district councilor being threatened with arrest. “political brownie points were not earned by this,” the commanding police officer mocked the district councilor. Other police officers continued to call journalists and other members of the public “cockroaches” and “rubbish”.

Meanwhile, the yellow flag is hoisted again at the same spot.

Citizens marched on the road with umbrellas in their hands. Those at the front asking for cables ties to be passed from the back, and told the crowd to maintain distance from each other.

The controversial National Security Law and the National Anthem Law, which have been condemned by legal experts and the international open societies as a threat to rights and freedom, are expected to be forcefully imposed on Hong Kong by the Chinese Communist Party government in China and Beijing-influenced Legislature in Hong Kong respectively.
