Chris Patten Calls on British Government to Speak Up on China's Breach of "One Country Two Systems"
Chris Patten, the last British governor of Hong Kong warned that China’s attempt to overrule the judicial system in Hong Kong is a threat to the city's autonomy.
Patten described the Beijing officials’ reasoning that they were right to weigh in on local affairs as “ludicrous”, showing that China “is determined to abandon the policies pursued by his predecessors, even at the cost of destroying Hong Kong’s way of life.”
In his letter to the foreign secretary Dominic Raab more than four months ago, he said, “The Chinese statement was in complete breach of the Sino-British joint declaration.”
