Hong Kong Athlete #GraceLau Wins Bronze in #TokyoOlymoics' Kata Competition
Grace Lau Mo-seung won a Brozen Medal in the "Kata" event for her home Hong Kong in the Tokyo Olympics on August 5, 2021.
It is the first and the last time for the Karate competition to be included in the Olympics. 29-yearm-old Lau said in tears after the match that this medal means a lot to her in her athlete career and entering the Olympic games is itself an achievement.
She recalled a few years ago when she first learnt that karate would become an event in the Olympics. She did not think of having a chance to enter the comprtition, but she still did all her best.
On the day of her competition in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she was exhausted after the morning's session. She said to herself before the medal match, "no matter how tired I am, I have to squeeze the last bit of my energy out. I cannot let myself regret later."
She said she had to "thank many people", especially her family, "if there is no support from my family, it is very hard to be a full time athlete [in Hong Kong]."
Lau helped Hong Kong to win the second Bronze medal of the day, after the women's table tennis team.
