Hong Kong is Hong Kong, not China.

Hong Kong is it's own nation with its own borders, language and culture.

------
I have personal experience with Hong Kong, I lived and worked there back in 2012. I didn't live in central where there are many expats, I stayed in a place called Cheung Sha Wan which is populated mostly by Hongkongers. During my time there I got to know the people, the city and I learned about the many differences between Hong Kong and China.
------

The great city-nation of HK became what it is today because of forward-thinking leaders who embraced arts, democracy, entrepreneurialism and principles of liberty.

CCP did not create HK, Hongkongers made HK - an orderly, culturally rich, economically successful nation comprised of clean streets, very low crime and respectful, hardworking people. (The streets of Hong Kong are among the safest in the world, even safer than our streets here in Australia).

Hong Kong is the greatest side-by-side example of a free nation that developed next to an oppressive nation. Whilst the CCP was systematically torturing and murdering it's own people, Hong Kong was thriving as a free nation. Unlike Communist China, citizens of Hong Kong were left free to express themselves, someone like Bruce Lee never could have flourished had he grown up in China, in fact he most likely would have been labelled a "subversive", jailed, or even killed. I wonder how many great Mainland-Chinese thinkers existed that we'll never known about because they were murdered by the CCP?

Freedom runs deep in the veins of Hongkongers. Many would rather die fighting for freedom than to accept CCP rule, as demonstrated in recent times. How many Hong Kong protesters have been injured, arrested, jailed, tortured and murdered during the protests? The true answer we'll never know.

The Hong Kong Police is not a real police force, it's a sadistic, terroristic enforcement arm of the Chinese Communist Party - a dangerous group of order-takers who at a moments notice are willing to inflict the most violent assaults upon innocent men, women and children.

This violent take-over of a wonderful nation is one of the greatest tragedies of our time and an utterly devastating loss to the world.

Will the world stand by and watch, or will we do something?

When the world economic structure is shuffled, what is the role of Hong Kong moving forward?

(23 Apr) Wuhan virus exploded in the US as confirmed cases and deaths skyrocketed, netizens in China were once thrilled and celebrated the decline of the national power of the U.S. Finally, the time has come for China to become the world power.

//The United States is pressing for a cold war against China, knowing that if all medical materials including masks are in China ’s hands, it can lead to the defeat of the United States. Therefore, even if Chinese private factories are temporarily transformed into mask factories, they will not be able to fill the decline of GDP in the long run. //

//As for the state-owned and private enterprises in mainland China, if they are looking to take advantage of the chaotic situation, they will either infiltrate Hong Kong or Taiwanese companies which are pro-KMT, or they will claim their products as manufactured in Vietnam and Cambodia, then blend in with other original products and secretly export them to the US.//

//in theory, Hong Kong businessmen in the mainland can also withdraw their factories and relocate to Hong Kong. Since Hong Kong is facing a soaring unemployment rate, catering and retail industry can no longer maintain the high volume of sales that they benefited from China’s bubble economy before. Hong Kong must also follow the trend of industrial transformation.//

//it is no longer the same as Hong Kong’s position and image deteriorates in the eyes of the U.S. //

//it is not essential for Hong Kong to develop advanced technology, because Hong Kong could be subject to sanctions by the U.S. on high technology exports. //

//Hong Kong must be regarded as "different from China" by the United States and the West, which is precisely what the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, Edward Yau, tried to convey to the US Consulate General in Hong Kong last year, that “Hong Kong is not China”. //

//But it is too late now. Hong Kong is becoming more “China-like”, its status has become very awkward. Even Google excluded Hong Kong from a U.S.-Asia undersea telecommunications cable.//

83-year-old Li Yi: I don’t have long to live, but I believe Hong Kong young people have wisdom beyond imagination 6/6

▶️ Part 5

Time flies, Make the most of it

Lee Yee is now 83 years old, do you feel that there is not enough time?

"Not enough time? Yes, but now I think I'll just take it naturally. I used to think I'll write a memoir, but now I feel like, if I can do it, sure, but if I can’t, it's also fine. Too many things in life we can't control or calculate. I just do as much as I can. I'm not thinking about creating any impact to the world and the society. There probably aren't any impact anyway. Unlike you guys because you are still young.... Now I just try my best to do what I can and want to, to live through the last years of my life. Life is the sum of one's actions. My only wish is to die a good death, not to have intubation all over my body."

"Many things can't be predicted, you just can't. I believe in existentialism - One's existence is always responsible to oneself. Right now, I'll have to make the most of "now". The next moment, I'll make the most of it too when it comes. What will happen? I am not a fortune teller. I don't know. Personally I feel that Hong Kong people's awakening cannot be undone; Hong Kong people have identified themselves as Hongkongers and will not go back to become a Chinese. They won't get attached to China again. The younger generation influenced the older generation. I've known this for a long time. Young people are willing to sacrifice themselves for Hong Kong, now what can't we? How many more years do I have? How many more do they have? Aren’t they more important? They have to think for themselves. If they can do it, so can we. Hong Kong needs to be separated from China. I'm not saying independence, it's a bit strong. But this awareness, I don’t think it ’s possible to turn back, in fact it'll only get stronger."

"The localism is driven by the younger generation, how strange. You know what, there's no such thing before the transfer of sovereignty in 1997. The younger they are, the more they have this idea naturally. It is not taught to them, we didn't. You know what, now the kids in secondary schools are the most determined. You don’t have to ask them, they don’t argue about it, that ’s how I do. Re-unification or independence? They don’t even talk about it. They'll simply say "I ’m not Chinese, I ’m a Hongkonger. I've always been one and I'll always be one."

End
